I finally pulled the trigger on this one (after searching for it in many stores which didn't have it - yes, I refuse to buy it digitally), my copy should be arriving next week. Anyone playing it? Impressions? I'm excited to see how the new "movement" feels, and as always, the story and puzzles! in 3d!
I'm finally digging deeper into this game, trying to finish it up.
I came here to ask what people thought about the underground labyrinth... it's getting kind of annoying to me, to be honest. It just feels too "average RPG puzzle design" in the middle of a game that I enjoy because it's not average. And it goes on way too long just rehashing the same few things. It's doubly annoying that when you mess up on the mummies it sends you back to the last room... why? It's just wasting my time making me walk to that room again. Only a few seconds, sure, but a totally unnecessary delay in the midst of a section I just want to end.
Otherwise the game is pretty solid. Not my favorite Layton, but not bad.
Ok, finished the game. Liked it well enough, although I feel like the series is definitely hitting a diminishing returns era for me. Will probably check out the 6th game eventually.
It was kind of interesting how like... long it took for everyone to finally realize that the totally obvious person to be the masked man was the masked man.
Hmm. BTW what does everyone think about the sort of "staple" villains of the series that are often randomly revealed to have been pretending to be someone else the whole time? The whole thing seems kind of cheesy and unnecessary to me.
@Zero Over the top reveals like that have to be a running gag since the first game (seriously, who saw it coming that the whole village were robots). That legit blew my mind. Since then I expect no less from Layton, and it tends to deliver with the zany plots. The only story that felt kind of drab to me was in The Last Specter.
