Just thought this title needed an official thread. Yesterday, while browsing the interwebs at work, I found a hands-on of the game that mentioned something that I had not heard of anywhere else. Unfortunately, I don't remember where it was, but here's the gist... Pikmin 3 now has an evade move! From Nintendojo "Handy, then, that our new lead character has a nifty dodge ability that sees both him and his band of Pikmin roll to the side in perfect unison whenever danger’s about to rear its ugly head. It took a while to master, especially since there seems to be a small amount of recovery time before you can initiate another one, but it brought a welcome sense of drama to the fights, as well as a greater feeling of control over your large army." Let's give this launch window game some love! ERRR..... Releases August 4th! Well, I tried to post the trailer. Thanks Renjaku! Now lets take a look at Gamexplain of the newest video URL to share (right click and copy)

Really slick and fun game so far! I finished my third day and beat the first boss, who unfortunately took over a dozen of my Pikmin to the great beyond with him. The controls and feel of the game are really tight, and the little tweaks to the game's mechanics (such as giving you the number of your remaining Pikmin per color, the number that you have while throwing, all the GamePad features, and FINALLY MAKING THE FRACTIONS CORRECT when you're carrying something) all add up to a really polished package.
After finishing the third day, I jumped into Mission Mode's first "collect treasure" stage. I got a silver, tried it again, got a silver, tried it again...got a gold, but was ONE POINT away from Platinum! I'm very impressed with the one stage I played--it was super fun, addictive, and full of split-second decision-making. I definitely appreciate the RTS-style approach to the way some new Pikmin mechanics have been implemented, such as the bridge pieces and the gold piles, where Pikmin will keep working until they're gone. Makes for some pretty nice moments about where you need to allocate your Pikmin.
Can't wait to play more! But I'm trying to pace myself. |

@ScrawntonNot doing that with Pikmin 3. No can do, sir. If he dies, he dies..@DrFinkelsteinThe entire beginning of the game is a Tutorial. I like to take a bunch of Pikmin with me (maybe 80?) and leave some in the Onion. Once a Pikmin returns something to the Onion (I gotta bitch about this -- no one will care), and it plops in the ground, you can NOT pick it, and it'll be a Flower Pikmin when you return. If you're never coming back top this location, obviously, pick it! And remember, there can only be 100 on the field at any given time. If you're wondering why nothing is coming out of the Onion, you're at the max already. Return some dudes to the Onion before the guy comes back, and THEN they'll get planted. When in fights, I often call off the dogs after a few seconds as many big guys (especially bosses) have some sort of "shake" or rolling attack or something. Anyone on board will generally be hurt, or worse. You probably should've played more than 5 minutes of the first Pikmin.. --Ok, "Onions" and "Pikmin." So, Alph and Brittany refer to them as Pikmin, except it was Captain Olimar who nicknamed them as such because they resembled Pikpik carrots back on his home planet ( and Alph reads a transmission from Olimar and is unfamiliar with him, so he's not like Neil Armstrong and everyone knows his "one small step.." deal like they know "we're gonna call these Pikmin"). Also, he called the Pikmin pods "Onions" for a similar reason..though Alph and Brittany just openly referred to them that was as well as if that was their given name. When they encounter Pikmin for the first time, they have no idea what they are, so its not like "oh, a snake!" They'd have no way of knowing that they were "Pikmin" or ""Onions."" Continuity stuff, come on, Nintendo! |
