Welcome to the official discussion thread for Zen Pinball 3D on the 3DS!
To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!
This game has finally hit the North American eShop and it's pretty fantastic... four fun, quality tables in 3D for $6.99.
I've already put a couple hours into it and I'd have to say that Excalibur is my favorite of the tables so far. There's a lot of fun toys and modes that aren't too difficult to unlock. The physics are well done and the graphics are pretty nice, though perhaps not quite up to Farsight's efforts with The Williams Collection.
I was hoping to get my hands on Pinball Arcade soon, but it looks like that's going to be a little delayed on the platforms that I have access to, so it's nice to have a quality pinball game like this to tide me over. I guess it is also going to support DLC tables in the future. Good stuff.
If you like pinball, you should probably buy this.
That's understandable but you also have to take into consideration that most of these tables won't ever be seen by you or me in real life. The death of arcades around the country was and still is a tragedy. Maybe someday, after the next ice age/nuclear winter, people will look back on these recreations and make an actual recreation of the recreation!
You so crazy, Abbers!
I have access to all of these tables via that local Pinballz Arcade and all it does is make me want the recreations that much more. So maybe the people who say they don't want recreations are actually people who never got into pinball in the first place. Maybe they don't really like pinball and want more of a video game experience. Which is a perfectly valid view. I love both styles. But I really can't imagine someone who loves actual pinball being more excited about anything the Zen guys are doing over the remarkable recreations coming via Pinball Arcade. Zen is a good pinball video game, no doubt, but what Farsight is doing is so much more ambitious and awesome, to my mind.
I can't wait for it to hit the 3DS. That's half my gaming for 2012 sorted right there.
I just wanted to let you guys know that my only personal goal right now is to beat Gui's score on Shaman. Then, I will have the high score on every table and of course the highest cumulative Pro Score.
I ended up buying this lastnight while lying in bed. Its the first pinball game I played in over 14 years. I used to be obsessed with this Sierra pinball game on my computer when I was a kid so I bought this thinking it would bring back some memories. This is a great game for the price and I was shocked to see so many people on the leader boards. I saw at least 30,000+ that's an amazing sign for profitability of eshop games!
Nah, you don't have much to worry from Hinph and me. We're both bigger fans of Pinball Hall of Fame. When that finally drops on 3DS, you better look out, though. There's no way I'm letting you guys beat me on Theatre of Magic or Bride of Pinbot.
The last I heard they'd pushed the release back a bit because of some hassle from Nintendo. But they still expected it to come out in May or something. I don't know if there's any more recent information than that, but I've been holding off picking it up anywhere else for the time being. The 3DS is where I want to play it.
3DS - We have a plan to get the performance we need out of the 3DS to run the ROM emulation, however some R&D in needed before we know for sure whether it will work. The 3DS version is on hold until we can invest the time and resources into this R&D.
Wii/Wii-U - FarSight developed 12 titles for the Wii. We wish that Pinball Arcade could be #13. Unfortunately, the Wii isn't powerful enough to run Pinball Arcade. We are very excited about the Wii-U and hope to release as close to the launch of the platform as possible.
Cool. (I mean, actually, not cool. But that's not your fault.) Good to know the current lowdown.
I could have sworn they originally said something about difficulty getting it on the eShop, though. Maybe that's what they meant. Still wondering how they can get the performance on an iPhone but not the 3DS.
