In the midst of an unending war for dominance between two super-powers, Special Intelligence Agent Stocke is assigned to a routine escort mission that goes horribly awry. However, wielding a mysterious book called the White Chronicle, Stocke discovers a way to travel to the intersection of time itself: Historia. With this power in his hands, he must travel back and forth through key events and an entirely alternate timeline to right the world's ill-fated course. The lives of his companions, the fate of nations, and the resolution of an impending disaster that now threatens the land all depend on Stocke's ability to discern the one "true" history.

Available February 22, 2011.

Sounds pretty good to me. The trailer makes the game look fantastic. And it comes with a music CD... DEFINITELY a nice bonus. Atlus really knows how to service their fans.

Wait, what? They're actually releasing it here!? I've been reading impressions from J-dawg and it sounded good but made it sound like the chances of localization were close to nil. Awesome!

I just have 3-4 DS RPGs to finish first, and a couple of PSP ones, but awesome!

AWESOME! I heard this a while back and was pleased as punch to know that Atlus is hooking us up with this game. The free soundtrack is icing on the cake too.

Oh wait... you guys have heard about this game before? Huh. I only just found out about it like, a day or two ago. I thought I was bringing some NEW news...!

Well, I guess I still kinda am, but I wasn't aware I was unaware of this game until now, lol!

Hm. Besides Panda, Octorockin and myself, apparently no one cares that a highly sought-after, promising JRPG is going to be localized here in the States.

.... wtf.

I've seen the title plenty of times before but I never checked out what it was. Timeline mechanic seems interesting, at least. Nothing else really struck me as awesome, but it was a pretty short trailer.

After finishing Tales of Legendia, I've learned that I need to be extra-discerning with my 50+ hour JRPGs. Nice that a longshot game like this is getting localized, but it's not rocking my world yet.

I think I was emailed about this from Atlus, but it is still great news. I will be picking this up to...erm...how shall I put this? Go with my brand spanking new limited edition DSi XL (I'm so weak...I thought I was going to get a 3DS with my PS3 trade-in).

Even though I have three DS games sitting atop my desk unopened (DQIX, Dark Dawn, 999), I am most certain I'll be preordering this game - judging just by the video and developer/publisher. It looks, and sounds, great. I mean, music by Yoko Shimomura? Reason enough alone for a purchase and a play through! This game in February, Okamiden (one of my most anticipated games that I know of) in March, and Pokemon White soon after I'm sure, 2011 is shaping up rather well for the soon to sadly be faded out DS. Here's hoping the quality continues.

@GameDadGrant DS gets tons of JRPGs in the states. I don't know enough about this one to get overly excited yet.

I've never heard of this game. What is so exciting about this JRPG in particular?
12/21/10, 00:44
There's a whole thing about this in Nintendo Power. Looks really great. I'm pretty interested.

@X-pert74

Mostly it's about time-travel and re-writing history. Which isn't unusual for games, and certainly not a foreign plot device for RPGs. (thanks, Chrono Trigger!) But this one looks to tackle the impact of time travel - like, what actually happens when you create multiple timelines when you go back and change things in the past. Kind of like what 'Back To the Future: Part 2' tackled, and what Chrono Cross (clumsily) based it's story on.

But it's supposed to be really fun, and the screens and trailer make the game seem like a lot of effort went into it. Which is always a plus, no?

@GameDadGrant That sounds pretty cool I liked how Back To The Future 2 handled that stuff in its story.
12/21/10, 11:03
Yeah I read the Nintendo Power article and it definitely looks interesting. The jumping between various parallel (time) universes thing is cool.

We'll see how it turns out.

I have already posted this in The Podcast Thread, but here goes:

A heads-up for the people looking forward to Radiant Historia, the first half of the last Active Time Babble is all about it (right-click, save as) and they have an Atlus rep talking about it AND answering some questions from fans about other Atlus stuff as well.

I gotta say, in the Radiant Historia they said all the right things to turn me on.

- No random battles.
- A much more complex and interesting time travel system than Chrono Trigger.
- A battle system that takes a page from SRPGs, but streamlined. Enemy encounters are significant and fun.
- Feels less grindy than the Persona games.
- The hero isn't completely clueless like in so many RPGs (or even Metal Gear). He's actually sharp and may even, *GASP*, be a few steps ahead of the player. No "HERPA DERP Metal Gear!?!" here.

So yeah, I'm psyched.
02/01/11, 20:12
WTF are they talking about with the hero being a few steps ahead of the player? Does that indicate if the player gets stuck, the hero might be able to tell you how to get unstuck? That could be pretty cool, if what I'm thinking is true.
02/01/11, 21:07
It means that he actually knows the world he's in, he knows about its politics and about the consequences of, I dunno, a sudden coup or a political alliance or something. And the player doesn't live in that world so he might have to read up the in-game logs to flesh out certain details.

I'm fine with that. I dislike it when not everything is clearly told simply through the dialogue, but I hate dunderhead heroes who need to have every little concept to them even more.

@Pandareus

Sounds good to me! I'll have to nab this when it releases. I do enjoy me a good JRPG concerning time-travel. And it's a DS exclusive?

Sold.
02/03/11, 16:33
Haha, J-Dawg. But I don't know about that 'herp a derp' meme. I just don't know...

This seems like a good game, for RPG fans. Actually, it sounds pretty decent to me, too, if it's like an SRPG and has no random battles. Maybe I'll buy it and never play it.

I think games that aren't published by Nintendo and Square and Namco in Japan have a pretty good chance of localization. I'm kind of just pulling that out of my ass, though.
