Of the two indie classic style survival horror games I have played (Signalis and now Crow Country), I definitely prefer Crow Country. Signalis was alright but it felt a bit like every room was kind of the same. Crow Country is set in an abandoned amusement park and all of the areas are creatively designed. It has a lot of puzzles too, not particularly super hard ones but a bit more than just key -> door sometimes.

I ultimately never finished Signalis but I definitely plan on finishing this one.

Horror is obviously very subjective, but: Does it have scares? Like, does it try to scare or unnerve the player?

It's definitely creepier than I expected it to be based on the little I saw of it beforehand. I thought it would be more of like a first survival horror for people who don't play horror type thing. But the story and enemies are definitely horror. Storywise there is something dark and WEIRD happening (though it's not quite clear what yet) and (spoiler but not really) there are various monsters and a few were obviously a bit Silent Hill inspired. Plus I have already run into a suicide, so I mean, it's serious business.

With that said it SEEMS to have a system where if you run out of ammo you can always get a tad more? I mean I don't know for sure if this works the way it seems to, but that is my impression so far. Not that I run out much. It might work for medkits too? So it's a little more forgiving than some survival horror games in this respect.

With that said, I suspect I was supposed to get a shotgun a long time ago and I haven't found it yet. So things get a bit tight at times. Although I have maxed out my shotgun ammo, so once I do find it, I will be a FORCE.

Ultimately I just find it hard to be too scared by old retro style graphics, and even by those standards I'd say it isn't Resident Evil / Silent Hill type scary, but it is horror and it does have scares. And if they introduce a Nemesis-like stalker or something, I will eat my words.

Alright, sounds good! Well, not sure if the ammo spawn stuff is good or not (that sort of thing is great for a game like Left 4 Dead, but that's a bit different), but the rest of it sounds good. Will look into getting a physical copy from Fangamer at some point, but I don't think I should be buying games right now, what with the Switch 2 on the way.

I'm playing on the middle mode, it's possible the harder mode doesn't do the ammo thingy. No clue.

Alright, finished it up. I have to say, overall I was very pleased. It's not groundbreaking but it's a good retro style survival horror game. Albeit, more about the exploration and puzzles than the survival I'd say, especially since you can basically get unlimited resources if you need to. Though you do die FAST in this game. If you get swarmed, you'll go from full health to dead in no time.

I probably could have done without all of the fake items and traps and such, especially since it doesn't even make sense that they start popping up all over the place, but ah well, not a big deal.

And the story is actually pretty interesting and goes pretty dark. But I won't say much about that.
