Haha you guys. I gotta give this game credit for ambition. They certainly weren't lazy, just following late-90s gaming trends and felt that the future of platformers was in bigger & better. To be fair, they reeled it back in a little after DK64 but it still went a little too far.
I liked it in 2000. Fully committing to the sequel aspect by having BK keep all their old moves (which I don't think I've seen in any other game that has you acquire moves), moving everything forward two years, and even killing and changing some characters was interesting. But Grunty dropping the rhymes both SUCK and BLEW, to paraphrase her own doomsday device in BT.
A super-tip for those replaying it: put in the code CHEATSUPERBANJO in Mayahem Temple's big code wall thing and BK will move much faster. This really cuts down on the time spent getting around in the game.
@TriforceBun I wish every game had a Faster Movement cheat code. I would even pay for the DLC.
@Mop it up To be fair, I didn't make it that far when it released. I really will try to play through it this time. I'm kind of looking forward to giving it another try. Same thing for DK64!
I guess they're holding GB and N64 DK to publicize some future release?
I've also barely played it haha. It never clicked with me as a kid despite the original being one of my favorite games, and when I tried playing it yesterday, the 20 minutes of opening cutscenes wore out my patience.

I'm gonna have to hard agree with this sentiment. Slow movement is often one of my top complaints about any game, especially more modern ones that have large expanses to cover, even those outside of open-worlders.
@Mop it up Speaking of which, the new Ys Port on Switch was just announced, and it features a 2x speed Turbo Mode. (I watch all of my Youtube stuff at 2x speed already, so it looked like 4x speed!)
I am totally on board with this wave of hyperactivity. Please also make movies shorter and less ponderous. Slow-motion shots in a 3-hour movie should be punishable by a fine.
I never played this when it came out. Trying it now, it feels like DK64-lite. Some decent QoL improvements over the first (notes aren't lost when you die, last game's moveset is in place) but many the levels are massive and not in the best way? I dunno. I like it, but it's not clicking like BK did for me.
