I was going to ask this in the Oracle Zelda thread. Whatever the theming is—changing seasons, time travel, light/dark worlds—you've got world state that you can toggle between, with some continuities and dependencies that cross between world states. It's the red/blue switch puzzles in Link's Awakening dressed up.
This is why Wario Land: Shake It is the platonic puzzle platformer.
Suit at the end looks like a sports car. I'm calling it the Ferrari Suit until we get the real name. Looks like we might be getting Metroids/Mochtroids implanting themselves with other enemies to make them stronger. Looks like it happened with a Space Pirate, and that plant boss had two Metroid-like sacs on it.

I said the exact same thing when I saw that suit.
I'm optimistic about the game overall, seems Prime-y as heck. I'm curious to see how all the new gameplay gimmicks actually mesh together and how they affect the progression, but so far so good. Not blown away, but pleased.
I found this trailer to be pretty underwhelming. What makes Nintendo games great is how dynamic and interactive they are, and this is something that Mario and Zelda has really learned to lean into this past generation; it's why Super Metroid is one of the best games ever. This trailer only showcased "open the purple door with the purple ability" lock-and-key puzzles without any imagination beyond that.
It looks like everything they've showed is only the first 30-60 minutes of gameplay so far though, so maybe they really are saving some crazy time travel mechanic for next week.
Thanks for the update in this thread! That suit at the end **chefs kiss** it looks so sleek and modern. I can't shake the feeling that that specific scene wasn't Switch 1 footage but was it just prerendered or what?
Maybe in this thread someone will discuss this with me but, the combat, doesn't it feel faster to you? Maybe I'm just wishing but the movement and fire rates feel faster to me.
Whether Prime 4 has it's own Switch 2 boxed version or just shows up next week as an example of how performance updates work on Switch 1 games - I definitely think we're seeing it again real soon. And a full hype trailer is due. That last one felt veeeery restrained for sure.
@Infinitywave I 100% believe they didn't give a date because that would have revealed something about switch 2 whether that's a launch date or it will have launched by this date for the game to be there too.
But I am highly anticipating the visual fidelity difference between both versions. I hope it's a Switch 2 box version so I don't have to immediately download a large patch. I'm happy to not play it on the OG switch.
Yeah as great as MP4 looks I want to get excited about the next gen. I want Nintendo to give us 100 reasons to buy a Switch 2 on Wednesday. Don't hold back. Don't play it cautiously and act like Switch isn't passing the baton quite yet. It's time.
Being able to play Switch 1 games on Switch 2 is definitely a selling point - but I'd much rather buy a better MP4 directly for 2.
Personally I think a huge appeal of Metroid is just not knowing anything. The last thing I want to be doing in one of these games is looking around the environment and going “Oh that’s where I’ll use __________ ability later.”
So, with that in mind, I don’t really mind that we haven’t see much. I guess it comes with having some faith that they’ll do some really interesting things later in the game, but I don’t have any reason to think they won’t so far.
Right now I’m just remembering how much I love all the lore in these games, so knowing that there will be a lot to pour over with this new planet is really appetizing. I also think her new suit looks awesome. I think it’s the first real new suit we’ve had since Prime 3? Which is crazy to me?
@PogueSquadron I agree about not wanting to know too much, though I'm also keeping my expectations set at "This is going to be Just Another Metroid Prime with nothing particularly new," partially because I genuinely expect that and partially because any really fresh stuff will then be much cooler. I did that with TOTK and had no idea I'd be spend the game assembling simple machinery, so that was a cool realization to have in the game's opening hours.
@weeman_com I didn't really care for the Dread suit when it was revealed, but it grew on me. I still like the classic yellow/red look the best, but it's still always nice to see Samus get a new dye job just for the fun of it.
