@Hero_Of_Hyrule If I'm understanding that garbled jargon-filled explanation correctly (maybe?) then I don't think it's humanly possible to make any real use of this. For every weird "exploit" that gets integrated into Melee's metagame, there's probably five more that don't. True for Ultimate, too, which already has a lot of little nuanced movement options that will probably never see actual use (and a few that already do).
I finally picked up a Switch Pro Controller (they were on sale for $54 on Amazon) and decided to give it a try. Man, my muscle memory is so Gamecube-centered, it's gonna take a while for me to get used to this thing for Smash. I wish the buttons were a bit closer together, but otherwise it feels nice overall.
When I played Smash 4 I had no trouble adapting to the Gamepad, but going back to the game a couple years later I had no idea what I was doing. Gamecube controller is what my muscle memory is adapted to.
Jesus Christ, I just played about 15 matches on my preferred rules which include all stages, and literally EVERY stage was a battlefield or omega stage. Is that all anyone plays?! Ug.
Servers are down for maintenance and the game is updating to 2.0.0. Apparently we're getting Piranha Plant tonight, in addition to a few other small features (multiplayer Spirit Board) and some character balance changes.
Character balance adjustments are here. Certainly better than the nothing we got in Smash 4.
Also, apparently if you footstool a crouching Piranha Plant, it will automatically attack you for small damage. It's amazing that this is a thing, and maybe even more amazing that someone found such a weird obscurity already.
Legit confused why I thought I unlocked all of the character but the Mii fighter and Mii shooter ones aren't on my character select screen. Yet no new ones are coming up to battle while playing, and none are waiting in the area where you can fight ones you lost to before.
EDIT: Wow the poison cloud is crazy! I spat one out fully charged, grabbed the opponent inside it, pummeled him a few times and threw him...and it racked up over 70%. That's nuts.
Hmm, looks like you're right though. You have to actually create a Mii fighter of each type to unlock it. I guess I created a swordfighter awhile back and forgot about that.
I downloaded 2.0 last night but haven't gotten to check it out yet. Do you have to download PP separately or something? My friend got the update but not the Plant.
@J.K. Riki Your friend needs to redeem the code that Nintendo sent to his email back when he registered the game (or bought it digitally). If he didn’t get an email, he should check his junk folder.
It’s a weirdly nonsensical way to do it, but Nintendo.
I made sure to redeem that code the second I got it because I knew I'd lose it if I didn't. I'm surprised people are having so many issues with this, redeeming a code for a piece of DLC isn't unheard of?
That said, I have absolutely no idea how to use Piranha Plant, which is exciting. I finished Classic at 5.6 with him! Lots of attacks that shoot straight up, ridiculous range, a side-B charging projectile... definitely an unintuitive fighter. I like it! Excited to see what people do with him, that video nate posted was cool.
