Amusingly Ridiculous Mania on Switch
Listen To This While Perusing The Thread
That's right friends and fighters, Nintendo's newest IP is finally out. The Testpunches are punched and the games are in the mail. Mine arrived today and any moment I'll be diving into the full experience. With a launch that held mixed receptions, Nintendo has done a great job at building the hype around this title and the hype is planned for many months to come. With planned free DLC in the vein of Splatoon, they'll be supporting new characters, stages, and maybe even modes for the rest of the year. With a starting roster of 10 awesome characters, who takes your heart in particular? Ribbon Girl was tied in first for both of our Testpunch polls with Min Min sharing the spot for the first round and the curvaceous Twintelle sharing it in the second. Mechanica and Ninjara were not too far behind.
I plan to be dabbling in a little bit of single player to explore that a bit, but you'll all be seeing me online soon enough! Have fun out there! Wear your mouth piece!
The kind soul driving through my one horse town to deliver stuff elsewhere dropped off my copy of ARMS today, so I'll be joining you guys online soon. Gonna need some offline practice first, though.
Gotta say, they hid the coolest levels away from the test punchers. Mechanica's stage with the subtle (compared to Ninjara's stage anyway) differences in elevation and Ribbon Girl's stage with the rising platforms in the middle are great! Makes the game so much more fun than just having some bouncy pads in the periphery or whatever.
@r_hjort I really like the stage variety. The gimmicks are fun, and even small obstacles and elevation changes can change up the nature of the match. Small arenas are much more brutal and offense-oriented than large ones, as well. I'd like to see an ultra-tight cage match.
While we're at it, I'd love an asymmetrical 1 v 3 Hedlok mode.
@Anand Gimmicks are great. I want more gimmicks. I know this isn't Smash Bros. or anything, but the more spectacle the better, IMO. As long as it doesn't interfere with the core gameplay, of course.
Would that be you alone versus three Headlocks or three people versus one Headlock?
EDIT: Not feeling the ooooh--ooooooh-ooooohing songs on the soundtrack, but I'm turning into a fan of these two tracks. What about you guys?
Both of my oppenents in a three player free for all had the lucky break, so right at the beginning they both rushed me. I was down 650 before I knew it.
Loving this. Haven't touched any game modes aside from Grand Prix and Ranked, and don't see any reason to play as any character other than Ninjara with his triple blaster thingies, so I'm skeptical as to how long the game will keep my attention or incentivize me to experiment with other options, but the core battling is a ton of fun to improve at.
@r_hjort Oh wow. I hadn't paid any attention to the music yet (y'know, because of all the frantic dodging and punching). I need to burn through all these. Love Mechanica's theme, they should call her stage the FUNKyard, eh? Eh? Ahhh forget it.
I'm in love with this game. I think I like it even more than I did Splatoon and that's saying a lot. This feels next level to me. MK8 and BOTW for example somehow don't feel at this level of polish. This is also the first true exclusive Switch game isn't it? I'd say it shows.
@pokepal148 Sure, you can waggle if you want to. You'll lose, but you can do it. ARMS is definitely not a game that rewards or even tolerates button mashing or waggling.
