This game has an answer for everything so far.

The point I'm at, there's so much stuff to do. Someday, maybe I'll make it to the first actual dungeon.

Yeah, I'm honestly not even in a rush to get to a dungeon thanks to the shrines.

This is the first open world game where I've enjoyed just roaming around instead of pushing forward with the main story.

@Shadowlink I haven't felt like that yet, given that most things off the guided path are too kill-happy for me to have fun exploring. But I imagine I may have that feeling once I have more hearts and better equipment.

This is a fun game. I am having fun!

I named mine Atlas, he looked like a map of some sorts. Also he sort of has the weight of the world on his back! Well, a hero with the weight of the world anyway.

I've done the first shrine, and stopped at the entrance to the second after lots of exploration in between. Yes this game is big

I saw the 10/10 score someone had given the game already and was sure it was going to be Carlos but nah, it actually wasn't Carlos.

Well, I just got off the plateau and I'm loving it so far.

So my two favorite Zelda games are the original Legend of Zelda and the Wind Waker, and I love them because of all the exploration you get to do. This is totally one of the piece with those, but they're using the Wii U/Switch firepower to take that idea to the next level. So I'm really excited. It seems like every hundred yards or something there's something new to discover and try. It's like a custom built Zelda experience for me.

This game is chock full of so many amazing moments...

Video game horses unite!

Dunno if anyone can answer this, but are there any items I can safely sell? I'm not sure how everything is used yet, so I'd hate to unload some junk only to find out it makes good potions or something. From the descriptions, it sounds like things like opal are meant for selling, but... is that true?

I've been selling the precious metals so far, but it wouldn't shock me if they end up having some other purpose (in crafting or something else). So far I haven't seen any other uses, though.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. I was loving the game when it was just the Great Plateau. Then when I got the you-know-what at the end of that section, I loved the game even more. But now that I'm off the Great Plateau, I'm going back and forth between "This is so awesome!" and "Eh, I wish I had a little more structure/Zelda convention/*whatever* in this game."

Wow, I had an amazing adventure this morning! I woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep (plus the baby started fussing), so I thought I'd sit in his room and play some Zelda on the handheld Switch. He soon fell asleep so I moved it back to the living room, and just in time--I decided now was the time to mount an assault on Hyrule Castle! This was a total sequence break--I haven't even been to a single dungeon. And I'm happy to say that...I did very well! I didn't stick around long enough to try to get to the final boss, but I did wander about a bit (spoilers, but vague-ish ones) in a few of its rooms, fighting massive, tough enemies. Eventually I found myself battling a miniboss (which I'd seen in the field before but had stomped me in the past). This time, I was determined to win. So I pumped Link full of delicious meals--heart-increasing feasts (hey, I only have four ACTUAL hearts after all) and power-increasing elixers. And at least twice, the miniboss brought me down to a quarter-heart!! But I prevailed and actually took it down...! I won't spoil the reward I got for doing so, but it is AWESOME. Also the music was great. And then I decided I'd had enough and got outta there before anything could kill me!

I would advise anyone considering it to try to mount a Hyrule Castle assault at some point. It's extremely fun and challenging and you may just come across lots of great treasure. Bring the potions and some strong meals though, and don't be afraid to eat 'em.

Pestilence sounds way cooler, though.

So... I probably should have realised this sooner, but I found out that if Link has full health and gets hit by an attack that should kill him, he'll be left with a quarter heart instead. I'm guessing the idea behind this is so Link can go anywhere from the beginning and still survive without being one-shot by anything, but the problem with it is that it makes me feel like getting more heart containers is a trap that effectively makes the game more difficult, which is completely backwards in my view. It seems easier to just stick with three hearts and stock up on 3-heart food items, eating one whenever Link takes a hit. This would also render defense of clothing pointless.

I'm considering restarting the game and sticking with three hearts... but then I'm also a collector and want to get everything... Why must you mock me, game?!

I guess I should just find some fairies to stock up on instead.

So, I finally got off the plateau and yeah, the game just gets better. I'm feeling it now. I like how there is no huge long hand-holding tutorial in this game, but I still kind of feel like the plateau is the "teach you how this game works" part and it feels a bit empty. But just on the path to the first town I've been running into so many things. For instance, stumbled upon some random mini-boss fight with a rock thingy. And of course the stable is on the way, and I found like 3 or 4 trial temple thingys, and all kinds of other stuff. And that was more or less taking a mostly straight path and exploring my immediate surroundings.

Ultimately I think I'm still going to miss the big, bold dungeons, but you know... this works too.

To hell with the dungeons. I never felt that was the greatest thing about Zelda.

EDIT: for me it was always about exploration. I think that's why I like the original game and Wind Waker so much. But Breath of the Wild is already making those games look theoretical when it comes to exploration.

Oh and I'm letting my daughter name the horses. My first one is named Bouncy.
