Done! I'll spiffy thus one up a but when I get back from out of state. Here for some sudden family business.
However, my copy of Xenoblade Chronicles X is arriving tomorrow and I am stoked! The reviews have been generally positive. I guess the game lacks slightly in areas but they can be overlooked for the sheer density and fun this game has. Looking forward to diving into it next week. Hopefully when I return sunday.
@carlosrox I think some of the faces look out of place stylistically (like Gwin's face if you've met him?) but overall I think the game is friggin' gorgeous! Especially all the creatures roaming around Primordia. Yesterday I climbed on top of a big cliff just so I could sit and watch those huge, peaceful quadrupeds with the glowing kneecaps stroll around eating the leaves off trees and stuff. Beautiful.
It's so weird how huge the starting area is... like insanely huge. I'm constantly in awe at the world design and how expansive and amazing it is to explore with enemies going about their business and just making everything feel so alive. This game
It's just so layered in such a fun complexity too. It's not all flat and there's always something up higher to explore or leaving you wanting to reach but then realize it's littered with high level enemies But maaaan, so stunning. I can't wait to explore everything again with a Skell.
Started neglecting my main mission by accepting a sidequest, and then started neglecting that in favour of another sidequest, which I promptly forgot about the minute I spotted the entrance to some sort of cave and went over there to investigate. Then a giant spidery thing chewed me to pieces. Aaaaah! What a wonderful day!
@carlosrox Monolith's artists are so damn good, and Nintendo knows the ins and outs of the system so well that they can create some truly outstanding visuals. I'd take this over a slightly less talented team's efforts on a more powerful system anyday.
@gtarrant I don't see how it would be possible for me personally to enjoy this as much as I enjoyed Xenoblade for a number of reasons, but I can definitely see how others could like this more. The new setting, the online, all the additional customizations and less traditional JRPG approach must set this game apart from the previous one in a big way for many people.
@Mr_Mustache Is that travel time only, or does it include the character creation and stuff? I spent a good long while creating my character, and now I'm not even all that pleased with how he came out.
I'm not a fan of the regular battle theme... but when facing off against Tyrants though! Much better! It's of course different than Xenoblade but I like it!
@VofEscaflowne I might possibly tolerate the music if the vocalists would just STFU and GTFO. All the singing just breaks the immersion of the game for me. That track's not as bad as the cheesy exposition they cram down our throats during the standard battle theme, but I just can't stand it. Same with the music that started playing at the end of chapter three. Started off sounding like something heartfelt I could get behind, but then some douche starts singing over the dialogue.
The field music's alright though, IMO. Was only in Noctilum for a few minutes, but that was relatively atmospheric. This track is pretty cool too:
Eh, I don't mind vocals all that much. I might have been that way when game soundtracks starting improving in quality and introduced vocals but it's not all that bad now. There's a lot of great JRPG soundtracks with excellent, if maybe "Engrish" vocals Mostly the Persona series haha. That Tyrant battle theme definitely adds to the tension of the battles anyway.
EDIT: But seriously, even when not taking my personal taste in music/RPGs into account, I think having vocals in a battle theme in Xenoblade is a bad idea since I want to be able to listen closely to what the other characters say, so I can adapt to the situations better. They do have the little dialogue bubbles pop up, which is nice, but when a fight gets really intense I don't have time to look at anything but my menus and the general location of the enemies.
I just explored more and got to Oblivia... holy crap, this game's scope is totally mind blowing I quickly turned around though cause I don't think I was supposed to be there
Thats 2 and a half hours of gametime. Created my person (which I didn't even know would be there somehow) in about 25 minutes. Had to get my skin tone JUST RIGHT before freaking out. And I had to put a mole below my lip because they don't have an above lip mole. OH WELL, UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhh.
--Can we adjust our characters somewhere? Haven't found it.. My hair actually came out a little more towards Reddish Blonde instead of the Fine Dark Chestnut that I am. (And I may've been conservative with my height; put it around the 85 mark, which didn't make me tall enough, apparently. I guess I'm a 90?)
I'm eager to get online and show off what I've got right now so I can settle on something else. (And my avatar on the Affinity Chart doesn't look like me or my guy at all. BOO. Looks like...ZARTAN.)
I'm back in Michigan and bummed my copy is lost in the shuffle. It arrived close to my house (maybe an hour away) on Friday, an error was claimed, then it left a location even farther later, but I don't know if it came up here or not over the weekend. If I don't see movement on this tomorrow I'm definitely calling UPS.
