What I wanted to say is that I would honestly fit "new-new Simpsons somewhere in the middle there. Have you seen some of the latest episodes? WOW. I mean, yes, they retread storylines (welcome to 20 years on the air) but they are GREAT again. The last episode with the Winter Olympic parody? Freaking GENIUS. I collect Disney pins and that is EXACTLY how it is. You give them everything, including your precious beloved pets. Must... have... more... pins.

EDIT: JKR's banned for liking New Simpsons. I saw that curling episode. Mostly entirely awful.

New Simps should be judged on an episode-by-episode basis at this point. Everyone gets different stuff out of it (personally, I thought the most recent episode about slavery was really solid). That said, MY SIMPSONS SEASON RANKINGS:

6 > 4 > 7 > 2 > 3 > 8 > 5 > 1 > 9 > 15 > 13 > 16 > 14 > 10 > 20 > 12 > 19 > 18 > 17 > 11

S21 is up in the air right now, but floating around S20, 12, and 19 for me so far.

I quite agree about the quality of the classic era and Futurama. But as much as I love Futurama, 8-ish great seasons of Simpsons beats 4-ish great seasons of Futurama. Still looking forward to this summer's new episodes!

You know what's underrated as heck? King of the Hill. Brilliant show, especially the first 5-6 years. So'm I banned yet?

Season 8 is better than either 2 or 3. After all, it has Hank Scorpio.

The thing is there is no distinction between new and old Family Guy. I don't know why people try to pretend there's a difference. I've unfortunately sat through both and I can safely say there is no difference in quality or humour. The show's as bad now as it was Season 1, Episode 1.

New Simpsons are a mixed bag, I can agree to that but Simpsons on its worst day is 1000x better than Family Guy on its best day. I hate that show with a passion. It offends me as a human being. It's not that I haven't given it a chance or haven't sat through episodes cuz I have. But from the moment I saw the show I thought it was offensively stupid and that 99% of the humour comes from "OMG LOL THAT WAS SO RANDOM I DIDN'T EVEN GET IT BUT I'M LAUGHING CUZ THE VERY FACT IT'S RANDOM". Especially since most people I know who like the show (in real life) are complete imbeciles who wouldn't get the majority of the vague references (Shawshank Redemption c'mon...that's not Star Wars or Transformers). Seth McFarlane is an uncreative hack who just stood on shoulders and thinks that cuz younger viewers like his show that he's created the best thing since sliced bread. The show has barely changed yet people almost seem to hate it now. I wonder why that is? It's cuz the fad wore off plain and simple.

As for the Simpsons, the show has changed tremendously and that much is obvious. The show became worse when it attempted the Family Guy style of humour. Ironic isn't it? When shows resort to absolutely idiotic storylines with little to no explanations, and emotionless hollow characters the appeal of the show is lost. That is one of the main reasons Family Guy never appealed to me. All the characters are annoying, obnoxious douchebags, why would I want to sit with them for 22 minutes? The Simpsons and all the residents of Springfield are real characters, not broad caricatures. They have feelings, they cry, they love eachother, they annoy eachother, they get in fights, etc. They are relatable because they're more real. If Homer ever really died in an episode I'd honest to god cry like a baby. Several episodes of The Simpsons brought me to tears when I was younger and they pull at the old heartstrings every time I see them. If Peter Griffin died I don't know if anyone would give a fuck. I have been a hardcore Simpsonsphile since I was 5 years old, I know that show like the back of my hand. The Simpsons helped to raise me much like Nintendo, Calvin N Hobbes, etc. I dearly love that show, and while it disappoints me it went downhill over the years, I still firmly believe it's lightyears ahead of Family Guy and Futurama.

Futurama is hit or miss in my opinion. That show can make me laugh out loud and other times it's like uhh ok that's not really funny at all. Futurama is a blend of New and Old Simpsons, though it leans far closer to the former. Fry, Zoidberg, and Zap are the only characters that consistenly deliver in my opinion. All the rest are pretty hit or miss and I find several characters quite annoying like Amy, Hermes, and several others. All the others have thier moments for sure, but they're far and few between imo.

More like bananable offenses, amirite?

I swear I've learned more from the Simpsons than I have from school.

I don't like the new Simpsons at all either. I saw a little of a the Olympics episode and the only line I liked was when Lisa said "Without my necklace I'm just a big Maggie!" Still, Boo-urns.

I never understood the appeal of that show. I don't like a lot of shows, but they can usually get a laugh out of me regardless. King of the Hill has never once made me even crack a smile. I don't understand where any humor is in it. The characters are interesting, but I just find it 100% void of comedy.

I do adore the theme song, though. One of the greatest theme songs ever.

I can get into King of the Hill, but it seems like such a DIFFERENT type of cartoon. Whereas the others are just straight up Simpsons clones. Well, Futurama is. Family Guy clones the Simpsons, takes out all of the depth, and adds in a bunch of pointless chaos. And American Dad is just a less funny Family Guy, which wasn't even that funny to begin with.

King of the Hill is like a traditional situational comedy that happens to be animated. The humor is pretty subtle, and most of it comes from the well-drawn characters (who, for once, aren't caricatures) and their interactions.

Like Shakespeare, The Simpsons, at its best, is a show for both highbrow and lowbrow comedy fans. King of the Hill is only for highbrow comedy fans. (And Family Guy is only for lowbrow comedy fans.)
