amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo. Known amiibo

Alright, nabbed Splatoon 3 pack, Pac Man, Charizard, Wario, Jiggly Puff, & not one, but two Greninjas. Based on stores around here, Lucina & Robin was the rarest, with Wario not far behind, only Target & ToysRus had him, Best Buy & Gamestop had basically next to nothing. Splatoon 3 Pack was the next rarest, every store only had 2 or 3, except ToysRus had about 20. Even the individual Splatoon boy & girl was in low quantities. Charizard I'd call uncommon, surprisingly low amounts of him, hell even PacMan wasn't that plentiful. That leaves Greninja, my ToysRus had 74 to sell after preorders. Overall, ToyRus had the largest quantity of every amiibo, they must be kissing Nintendo's butt real good. They had more amiibos than three Gamestops, two best buys, two targets and two Walmarts(fucking joke store right there, I hate lowlife walmartonians), all put together by a long shot. I would have bought more Greninjas, except it was limit one of each type per customer. I gave my partner $20 to nab me a 2nd one, so I can leave him in the box or trade him. Target had about 20 Jiggly Puffs, I didnt even want him, but when the girl came around with a box full asking who wanted him, I figured might as well. I thought about being greedy cause she said I could have two, but I felt like I'd look like a jerk buying two and someone else behind me not get one.
Most stores had around 10 or more silver Marios, definitely no interest in that amiibo. I find the silver and gold marios ugly as sin, esp. the silver one. So all in all not a bad day. Now, just need to get lucky on amazon for Robin and Lucina. Actually, I would trade one of my Greninjas for a Lucina. Just throwing that out there. Lucina must be in packaging and in near perfect condition. Minor crease, ect isn't a problem. |

Well, 4 stores and lots of waiting later here's my report.
0700 - Walmart - There was a lineup of 12ish people then a mad dash of those to the back of the store to get the new Amiibo. The store exclusive Jigglypuff was plentiful enough that everyone was able to get one without difficulty. They had plenty of Pac-Man and a smattering of Charizard, Wario and SIlver Mario. 1 each of the Splatoon girl and boy and absolutely no Robin or Lucina. I left with 1 Jigglypuff.
After leaving Walmart I made it over to Toys R Us.
0745 - Begin to wait in line at TRU - When I got there I was about the 15th person in line. As time crept closer to the 9am opening the line steadily increased till there were round about 40 people. TRU had every character in stock, save Ness and Jigglypuff as they were exclusive elsewhere. They had enough exclusive Greninja for everyone who wanted one. There only seemed to be 6 - 8 Robin and Lucina each. Pac-Man was plentiful as was Wario, Charizard and Silver Mario. I left with 1 Silver Mario for Dr Finkelstein.
Left TRU to go to EB Games
0930 - Arrive at EB with no line at all. It turns out that the store had been fulfilling the preorders since 8 am. I had preordered Ness and Pac-Man so that's what I left with. They got no extras of any kind to sell to none preorders and they didn't get Lucina or Robin in at all.
Left EB for Best Buy
0950 - Got to BB with 10 minutes to spare and a line of 8 people, and all I'm after is Meta Knight. I get into the store and we're greeted by the fact that they got nothing in but the Splatoon amiibo and Pac-Man. I inquired about Meta Knight and the person I ask has no idea if they are going to get any or not, "we're supposed to get some... but I have no emails saying when or how many. Truthfully, we may not ever get them in." That's what I was told at least. I left with nothing.
Left BB for doctors appointment with my wife and daughter
1050 - At this point my wife wants a coffee and I've been staring at the Silver Mario I bought earlier thinking that I want one for myself. So I stop at the Walmart that I started the day at, got the last Silver Mario they seemed to have and left with my wife's coffee from the McD's. I have no idea how many of anything was left from the opening rush, I didn't ask or look. I left with 1 Silver Mario.
I'm satisfied with how the day turned out for what I was after. I hope someone out there was able to track down an extra Meta Knight for me, though! Stupid Amiibo's.... we're never satisfied are we?
As a footnote, I should say that I did all of this hunting with Ploot. He can tell you all about what his wife volunteered for..... she's a helluva trooper. |
