amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! @kriswright The Luigi just looks so wrong to me. Rosalina looks pretty off as well. All the ones with plastic pieces holding them up look off/cheap, but those two look especially bad.

@Jargon You'd guess right in my case. I still don't like Amiibos, but don't feel the need to mention that every five posts.

I'm still not big on Amiibos (or figures, or collectibles in general) but since the Toys 'R Us "Free Amiibo with Smash" deal is still one of the better ones at launch, I guess I'm getting one. I suppose can feed it all that Smash equipment I never, ever use.

And I'm going with Kirby!
1. The Amiibos I'd consider more than him (Little Mac, Mega Man, King Dedede, Ike) aren't available until later
2. He doesn't have any of those ugly plastic stands (probably)
3. He will unlock stuff in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse (hopefully)
4. He's totes adorbs

I was at Target today and they had Amiibos on sale! WTF are they just breaking street date?

I didn't buy any because only Mario and Pikachu were left and I'm not planning on getting those...

Yeah does Luigi have that base coming out of his groin?

Well maybe they only had those two... or maybe they just had way more Mario than other characters, it was a big display though and several rows were missing...

Called Toys R Us and GameStop today. I'm told that I don't NEED to tell GameStop that I'm not going to buy my reserved Amiibo, so I'm going to attempt the 3 for 30 at Toys R Us (which starts Friday morning), and then swing by GameStop and float my tow reserves over to next month for Luigi and Zelda (and Little Mac at some point in there).

Also, GameStop is having a midnight release for Smash Bros (which I didn't know), so I'll be checking out in like 24 hours. Dig it.

I will be receiving the whole 1st wave of Amiibo's from Amazon tomorrow.

It was never my intention to get the whole 1st series, I pre-ordered them just incase some would have been hard to find that I would have wanted to get. Unfortunately I waited to long to remove ones that I will most probably leave packaged up. I am not sure which one I want to use yet, but I am leaning towards Samus.

Maybe I should've returned it but my Samus amiibo has tiny mistakes here and there. Kind of annoying... but it's not like the quality is great to use it for a collection anyway. They looked better in pictures really.

I suspected (before release) that some of these would be shortpacked in cases, and it appears as if my fears are already haunting me. A story first..

I had reserved Link and Villager at GameStop (still have it), but when I found out about the Toys R Us deal, I planned on going there to get Link, Villager, and Peach. Last night I went to GameStop to pick up Smash Bros., and I asked about the shortpacking, and the guy told me that they basically only had Amiibo based on their reserves, so much so that they were already sold out of Link (save my reserve) and had no Yoshi either. Even though I wasn't nuts about getting Yoshi, that struck me with a dart of FEAR.

So I mosey on down to Toys R Us at the two-inches-above-the-buttcrack-of-dawn, getting there to see them unlock their front doors. I go back to find a WONDERFUL Amiibo display, and this is what I saw:

I'm told that they THINK they don't have those because of all the stupid snow we've had recently. HMMMMMM. She said that a store across town was EXPECTING 8 but also didn't have any, and another TRU in a town that there is no chance I'm driving to had 6 Villager on hand. Good Gravy Marie.

Called Lou, seeing if I could scoop one up for him. He wanted Toon Link so that won't work. I got a weird idea in my head; could I maybe, buy one that I don't really want and then return/SWAP it at GameStop for my Villager that SHOULD be there all reserved for me? I ended up buying a 2nd Link to try to do this since they were sold out.

GameStop's phone has been busy every time I've tried in the past hour, so I don't know what the heck is going on over there. if the start of today is any indication, I'm guessing my Brilliant Plan isn't going to work exactly how I wanted. Maybe I'll pick up a pristine Samus and see if theres anyone around who wants one. (All joking aside, I DID eye my characters pretty good before committing them to my hands with intent to purchase. I put two Peaches back; one for a hair scuff and another with a dress abrasion. How 'bout that.)

When someone does get them all, I wanna see pictures. I bet they look great all in collection like that. I'm pretty excited to get my two today.

My Samus and Link just came! Looking good. I'm going to try them out in Smash, I still have no idea what they do. Even on the box it doesn't explain what they do. Save your character? Can't you just do that anyway? Makes no sense to me, but maybe it will all become clear.

EDIT: okay so I plugged in Samus, fed her some badges, and then it saved. Cool. But how is that different than just creating a custom character without the Amiibo? Hrm...

Apparently I'm going after work to do TRUs 3 for 30 Amiibo sale with a coworker. He just wants Link, which leaves me with two. Samus for sure. Who else?! I'm leaning towards Fox or Villager.

This is assuming these are all in stock. I'm a bit worried stores will just carry 100 Marios and not much else.

Peach and Link are on their way. Wave 2: Luigi and Zelda, will be here in December.

OK so I leveled up my Samus FP to like 10 now, I guess it's cool to watch her fight against other bots? Still think it's bizarre, Skylanders seems to work in a much more concrete way, but the figure get the character in the game, not sure if this will take off in the same way, but the figure and get... well not really anything that isn't in the game already.

I also plugged em into Mario Kart to see the Mii outfits, they're kind of neat, but I don't really play with my Mii so not a big deal.

I feel like the figures are amazing as toys, but they need to come up with better uses for them in-game. So far pretty LAME. For Mario Kart especially, it would be way cooler if you unlocked characters and karts instead of just an outfit. In-game Samus and a gunship kart? Hell yes!

EDIT: I am impressed by how fast the NFC reads the figure, it's practically instant, very nice.

Got me a Samus from Target.

Will try it out tonight with Smash.

Welp I got Samus and Fox. The only characters not in stock at TRU were Villager and Marth, both of which only had one hook. Oddly enough Peace had as many hooks as Mario (7) although it looked like barely anyone had bought any Peach figures. Poor Peach.

I do have every intention of getting them all, but I am currently forbidden from buying myself anything until Christmas. These types of items are nice gifts to get. Seems I'll have to get Amanda hunting right quick to get them all, though. Oddly enough, my local Target didn't have any out today. Bummer.
