The trophy description for the Pokemon Trainer makes me very sad.

What's it say?

Heads-up: people playing online are getting banned for 136 years for no reason. Probably a good idea to wait a couple days before logging on again.

I think it has something to do with Group Mode. I don't think it would affect our tournament since it's all one-on-one. Still, it's an important notice for people.

lol awesome

@DrFinkelstein Pop quiz! What do Misty, Brock, Cynthia, Iris, and Ash all have in common? That's right—they're all Pokémon Trainers! This Pokémon Master in the making is the same. Back in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, he fought to be the very best—like no one ever was. To smash them was his real test—to launch them was his cause!

Why does that make you sad? That's actually pretty awesome.

I have a room open right now. Anyone free to go a few matches with me?
11/02/14, 16:54
@ploot because I mained the trainer in brawl.

Did you find yourself using a particular Pokemon of his more than others or was it always pretty even?
11/02/14, 19:45
Oh, that is sad. Boo to the 3DS limitations, and Sakurai's need to have roster parity.

@DrFinkelstein it was an even split between charizard and squirtle.

Ivysaur exists only to make switching to charizard more annoying.

I like Ivysaur a lot because he's the only playable Pokemon other than Pikachu that isn't bipedal. There are so many Pokemon that don't move like humans, and he was pretty much their sole representative.

Ivysaur was great. I'd much rather have it or Squirtle in than Charizard, though at least Charizard got a fun buff in Flare Blitz.

And Ivysaur got a great boost in Project M. The Seed Bomb and rebalancing did wonders for the character. It's my favorite Pokemon in that mod.

Quoted for truuuth. Ivysaur was great, fun, and unique--easily my favorite playable Pokemon in the whole series.

Personally, I'm getting a little sick of all the bipedal, humanoid "cool" Pokemon. It, like, kind of defeats the appeal of playing as a Pokemon in the first place when he moves and acts just like a generic fighter. Lookin' at you, Lucario...!

@Hero_Of_Hyrule I only played a little of Project M, but I wasn't crazy about losing Bullet Seed. You could really rack up damage against an opponent who got in too close with that, granted it's a lot more useful against the dumb CPU than a player who will naturally DI out of it. And the whole Solarbeam thing in Project M was a pretty cool way to make Ivysaur even more unique, but it would have been nice to have both that AND Bullet Seed.

Stamina limit aside, I thought Ivysaur was pretty solid in Brawl. Fairly quick attacks, small target with nice range with those vines, and Razor Leaf was a decent projectile. Vine Whip wasn't a great recovery, but oh well.

As for Squirtle, it's just now dawning on me that it was basically a smaller, faster Mario (minus fireball and meteor), and that's kind of boring but I loved it anyway. I never did check out how it changed in Project M.

I'd love to see them bring back Pokemon Trainer, or at least Ivysaur and Squirtle. If they had to keep one them I'm glad they kept Charizard. I mean, he's Charizard.

Maybe a new Pokemon Trainer could use the original 3 and have alt costumes for three other starters or something.

I'm kind of surprised Blaziken didn't make the roster. Though that may be a blessing, since his moveset could easily have become yet another Captain Falcon clone.

Playing online with friends is way better than with strangers. I know this seems obvious, but the difference was actually pretty surprising. When I play for glory 1v1, I tend to get frustrated with input delay or spamming or people using cheap strategies. But with friends, I don't worry about that stuff and can relax and have fun. Whether it's a close match, or I'm getting demolished, I consistently have more fun with friends. I'm not sure why there's such a huge difference, but I definitely appreciate it.
