Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U
9.14/10 from 37 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

This May, one game will define MULTIPLAYER FUN on Wii U. That game, is Mario Kart 8!

Mario Kart has been a Nintendo staple since it's SNES debut over two decades ago. Only two Nintendo products neglected to have an entry and each entry that has existed is a charming title in someone's eyes. Entries like Double Dash on Gamecube helped push the boundaries of creativity and uniqueness, while more recent titles have continued to refine a core experience. Mario Kart 8 seeks to continue that trend with it's jaw-dropping HD visuals, Anti-gravity racing, and incredibly well-designed tracks.

With all the characters known, the deep customization possibilities to each individual racer, the classic 32-total track count... there's so much to discuss and share and debate. Reviews are just coming in now and while I'll post a few below but they're not all gushing with pride. User Stephen recently made a thread aiming to have a more comprehensive list of reviews available. So... Are you impressed with the Mario Kart TV feature, excited for the Super Horn, or bummed at how battle mode has changed? Share your thoughts on the game below, now, upon release, and well after! Below you'll find a list of Nintendo Network IDs as compiled by our own Mop It Up! Be sure your friends are added to your console!

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

Guess we haven't played together in a week or so. Maybe I'll try Rosalina again in my usual kart/wheel combo. I was messing around with her in a standard kart. Most races I did okay, but I also got pummeled a lot more often.

I switched to Waluigi last night and while racing in groups of 10-12 I consistently finished in the top 3 spots. This is very anecdotal considering that I only raced a handful of races and the people I was racing against were all pretty low level, but it seems to be part of a larger trend of heavy = more success.

Isn't there a way to make your Mii a heavy? I'd prefer using my Mii.

Mii is based on height and weight, I think. They cover all weight classes. At least they did in Wii...

@Zero @ludist210

Correct. You'd have to put some more meat on your bones, Andrew, if you want to have a heavy Mii.

Really? That's kind of weird, it forces you into a certain class just based on who you are? LAME.

I guess I'll just stick with Waluigi or something then. I'm not making myself fatter just to use a heavy class.

Just drink a bunch of malts in real life every day. You can use a heavy Mii that looks like you then. Simple.

GGs Old Man From Zelda and Cryo!!

My brother and friend who just got Wii U were playing.

I think that's kind of cool. If you're a small guy, why shouldn't your Mii be small? *shrug*

It was fun racing you guys last night! Some damn good racers here. I was "Travis C." racing as Wario.

@carlosrox @MasterSandman II

Yeah, it was a fun night indeed. I'm seeing a payoff from switching to a heavy character, no doubt.

I like using Shy Guy in time trials but online, I do better with the big guys
07/09/14, 23:47

..Aren't you a like 6'5? I'm pretty sure that'll make you pretty heavy. No one moves me (Mii) around anymore, with the exception of the heaviest drivers/karts.

Mostly fun, but whats up with "Lets Wait For More People!" guy, over and OVER and OVER again?? Seriously annoying. I wish I could ignore it somehow. Canadian Richard, you're on my list.

And I miss Monster Hunter. I wanna play that again..

I'd really like to know why I often get loaded into a game with hardly any racers. I understand that they probably put priority into getting you into a race NOW but it's just lame when you're in there with 3 other people. It seems like there's always people playing...shouldn't we just get put into a race with an almost full room?

Do you try joining a friend first? I haven't been on alone..ever? Add some NW people.

Also, are you doing Worldwide or Local? I think that might make a difference.
07/10/14, 01:30
I actually enjoy the occasional 3-4 player race. It mixes things up and keeps the competition fierce.

Can't he scream through the gamepad between matches?

Not that that's ideal either. Screaming at you over Skype *during* the race is much more satisfying.
07/10/14, 03:24

That's only in friends only races I believe.
07/10/14, 03:30

Oh. That's rubbish.

(More rubbish)
07/10/14, 03:41
"You got me that time" isn't a preset comment. Still funny.
07/10/14, 04:10
@MasterSandman II Because weight class in Mario Kart isn't arbitrary! It should be a choice!

@Mr_Mustache Yeah but I'm super skinny. Though not quite as super skinny as I used to be.
