Ubisoft's Watch Dogs announced for the Wii U

It may be a Sony day today, but there was some news for Nintendo fans as well. Ubisoft fired off a press release about their much-hyped game Watch Dogs. From the press release:

In Watch_Dogs, players will experience the realities of living in our fully connected society, where individuals and corporations are at risk of exposure by our ever-increasing reliance on networks and technology.

Players will assume the role of Aiden Pearce, a new type of vigilante who, with the help of his smartphone, will use his ability to hack into Chicago's central operating system (ctOS) and control almost every element of the city. Aiden will be able to tap into the city's omnipresent security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control systems such as traffic lights or public transportation to stop a chase, and more. The city of Chicago is now the ultimate weapon.

CHICAGO STYLE BABY!

Also this:

Watch_Dogs will be available on PS4 at launch, along with its release on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the Wii U™ system from Nintendo and Windows PC.

Of course, the question in my mind is; will the "current" gen versions be scaled down in some fashion? It really depends on whether the game is being built for the PS4 first and foremost, or the reverse. I suppose we shall have to wait and see!

What the FUCK is this???

Really?? Oh man I guess this is Rayman Legends part deux (just the last minute delay I mean).

That sucks, this was gonna be a PS4 launch title for me.

And what's this I see about all versions being the same? It's clear as day the PS4 version does things the current gen can't.

@rebonack
Til the cancellation that is.

Delayed again, now without any specific date.

There were Wii U cancellation rumours a week or two ago.

I'm sort of losing any optimism that this will ever release on the Wii U. We'll see.

@Zero

So it's delayed to come out after all the other versions? Hmmm... I wonder why this game will bomb?

I wouldn't be surprised if the PC version also ends up delayed; Ubisoft almost always delays the PC versions of their games because they're concerned that releasing the PC version at the same time will somehow contribute to PC-related piracy.

About the Wii U version though, it's looking very bleak. I would not be surprised if it did end up being canceled.

So, there is now quite literally not one single major third party release announced for the Wii U in 2014? Or am I forgetting something?

@chrisguy

Bayonetta 2 is still on deck, but that's all I can think of.

EDIT:

Just thought of a few:

X
Project CARS
Sonic Boom
Lego Hobbit

@New Forms
X and Bayonetta 2 are going to be published by Nintendo, so they're not really third-party.

X is first party, Bayonetta 2 is second party.

@chrisguy

Not counting indies... pretty much. Though when is the new Sonic meant to be released?

Take it away, Andrew Eisen!

This is just ridiculous. I'm tempted to never buy a Ubisoft game again after their completely unlikable actions over the past two years.

@TriforceBun

Is that the same guy that did the video on Project Rainfall titles coming to NA? Something about leaving his money for those titles on the table?

He's cool as heck.

Yep! He's actually a member here too, or at least was for a bit.

Just posted that video on Ubisoft's Facebook wall because it's true: they've sent the Wii U version of this game to die (if it ever comes out on Wii U at all). It's not like it would have necessarily sold like gangbusters on Wii U, but still...any chance they had of decent sales just got decimated if the delay is for a significant amount of time (a month or more).

Eh. Well it's not going to help sales but personally I don't care when it comes - I just hope a) it's a decent game, b) it's got good gamepad features and holds up technically.

Just had a birthday last week or so, too; and isn't it Andrew Eisen? Hmm..

Either way, I'd have that guy do commercials for me.

EDIT- Oh, and the lack of Wii U support across the board is totally butt.

Whoops! Hah, yeah. Andrew Dobson is a webcomic artist.

I fully expect this to be Colonial Marined, so this is really nothing more than an appetizer to my expectations.

He was a guest on one of our podcasts!!

This whole Wii U black balling really sucks. I'm either going through buyer's remorse or it's that time of the month.

Hey folks!

Yeah, I'm still here and yes, I'm the same guy that did the Nintendo: Why Won't You Let Me Give You My Money? and the Ubisoft Delays Rayman Legends For the Good of All Gamers videos.

Yeah, this news is quite the bummer. In addition to looking like a ton of fun to play, I think Watch Dogs has the potential to be the best game since ZombiU to show off the value of the Gamepad. Hopefully the game will come out for the Wii U (many think Ubi will quietly cancel it) and that it will have the same features as all the other versions (multiplayer, online modes, DLC, etc.).

Here's hoping!

Andrew Eisen

P.S. - Not to overly plug my YouTube videos, but check out Nintendo Fanboy Reacts To Wii U Woes if you're feeling down about the Wii U and are looking for a bit of a pick-me-up.
