It may be a Sony day today, but there was some news for Nintendo fans as well. Ubisoft fired off a press release about their much-hyped game Watch Dogs. From the press release:

In Watch_Dogs, players will experience the realities of living in our fully connected society, where individuals and corporations are at risk of exposure by our ever-increasing reliance on networks and technology.

Players will assume the role of Aiden Pearce, a new type of vigilante who, with the help of his smartphone, will use his ability to hack into Chicago's central operating system (ctOS) and control almost every element of the city. Aiden will be able to tap into the city's omnipresent security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control systems such as traffic lights or public transportation to stop a chase, and more. The city of Chicago is now the ultimate weapon.

CHICAGO STYLE BABY!

Also this:

Watch_Dogs will be available on PS4 at launch, along with its release on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the Wii U™ system from Nintendo and Windows PC.

Of course, the question in my mind is; will the "current" gen versions be scaled down in some fashion? It really depends on whether the game is being built for the PS4 first and foremost, or the reverse. I suppose we shall have to wait and see!

This looks really cool, I'm glad a major 3rd party game has been confirmed, hopefully it'll lead to other confirmations too.

I just hope it has more interesting and better designed missions than the Assasins Creed games.

Almost reserved this the other day. Anyone else get in on it yet?

I want the game...but i'll wait and see how they treat this game. Hoping all future Wii U versions when ps4 and 720 games get worked on that it gets the Criterion treatment and they port from the pc and not the 360...

Ubisoft: Watch Dogs "the same game" on current- and next-gen

He mostly refers to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, but I'd assume this holds true for the Wii U version as well. Good news, I suppose?

@Zero

Good news. It's one of the launch PS4 games I want to get, but if the difference isn't that noticable I'll just get it on the Wii U (good news that, apparently, this gen was the lead platform). Depends on how they handle the tablet.

Yeah I think the game will kind of be similar to one of the early 360 games. Basically a current gen game on steroids. Good to hear though, for people who don't want too much of an 'inferior' version.

Watch_Dogs has been delayed until Spring 2014.

Ubisoft said:
Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until spring 2014.

We know a lot of you are probably wondering: Why now? We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion keeps us motivated.

We can’t wait to see you in Chicago next spring. We are confident you’ll love this game as much as we love working on it.

Yikes!

Isn't WD like at the top of most people's XB1/PS4 launch lists?

Oh boy.

@New Forms

I'm pretty sure there were PS4 bundles made for it. So it had to be close to going gold.

Frankly every delay nowadays just makes me happy. Although it's just putting off the inevitable deluge that I just don't have time for.

I'm cancelling my PS4 pre-order, no joke. I was already thinking about it, but this was the only game I wanted for the PS4 launch window. I can wait a year or more for it to get some feet under it and a price drop.

@Deerock69 I think that it will still make it. Weren't they just like a week or two ago talking about the Wii U version as "next gen" or whatever?

@missypissy

Oddly enough, I am too.

I'm taking a wait and see approach for all next-gen platforms. Also want the libraries to mature a bit too before investing.

I'm a little surprised about the delay, but I can understand it. I was still seeing conflicting info over what resolution each version of the game would even run at, which seems odd considering how close to release it was supposed to be.

I did the same thing earlier today. Watch Dogs was the "for sure" game I wanted to get a PS4 at launch for, I can definitely wait until at least the spring now.

Watchdogs was always going to be wait and see for me so it doesn't effect me. The only game I will be getting for sure on PS4 is Battlefield 4. Killzone, Knack, and others might be worth picking up but I am going to wait and see. The real draw for me is the Destiny beta, and Infamous Second Son which are early next year.
