Hey hey, NWP fans! DrFinkelstein hosts an all new episode and brings along some friends, Ninsage and Davoid. Ninsage lets us know what it's like having a Dreamcast in 2012 and Davoid talks a bit about Etrian and the game club. DrFink has been sinking his teeth into a double-whammy of Xenoblade and Rhythm Heaven Fever.

When the Doc asks, 'What Do You Fink?', the guys discuss Community's 'video-game' episode, the upcoming Kirby Compilation Disc, and the 'hardest platformer ever'.

After the break they continue on to the main topics and chat about Nintendo entering the realm of full digital downloads, the evolution of the 'casual' market, and what they're looking forward to most with E3 2012 just around the corner.

As usual, the theme music comes from Negative World's owner and dictator, Zero. The music throughout the podcast is taken from The Lion King on the SNES. Stick around after the end credits to hear a super secret, but totally awesome, tip.

Comment on the topics, the podcast, the guests, the host, etc. on Negative World! Or, go ahead and post them on Facebook or Twitter instead.

You can find an enhanced version of this podcast with chapters and art at Negative World Podcast Enhanced or on iTunes.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?
Trying to listen by my work computer hates the internet. What the H.

All I got was "We're baaack" and the date this is being recorded on, blargh.

Giving it a listen this instant.

EDIT 1: Wow, my sound level is pretty high. I feel like I'm that loud guy on Dilbert.

EDIT 2: I'm up to our main topics now. It's pretty good & flows pretty well. You did a pretty good editing job Fink.

Shouldn't really be. I mean, it's kinda impossible for me, as far as I know, to fix each section without just going to each section and listening once more after editing but we're all pretty normal IMO.

This show just isn't the same without Greg Leahy ... wait, what?

@DrFinkelstein, Maybe it's my speakers... I bet listening with my headphones fixes it. I just don't find them right now. It's either that or your velvet-like voice that clashes so much with mine.

Velvet? hah! I am soft-spoken usually. That could just be it. I did weirdly spike a few times, but in editing I either fixed it or cut it out entirely.

Started giving this a listen today, good job everyone!

Was there something going on during the recording? I've been hearing some 'click'ing sounds dispersed at random moments.

@DrFinkelstein, that's awesome you've really been enjoying Rhythm Heaven Fever. And congrats on getting all 50 medals! think I have 46, I haven't touched the game in a while but the ones I couldn't pull off were Tap Troupe, Remix 8, Love Rap 2, and Remix 10. Oh, and allow me to shamelessly plug my review for the game (I went back and read your comments in that thread, you were still undecided at that time whether this game would hook you or not ). Suffice it to say, the fun factor in RHF is through. the. roof!

I like the little break after the 'What do you Fink' section. The Kit Kats look very tasty, for sure.

Next, I'll be listening to the main topics, starting with digital downloads vs. physical games.

I hope it was more consistent for you throughout the rest of the episode!

-Sorry about that... When I'm nervous I get to play with the stuff around me... I was at my girlfriend's desk when we were recording & I was playing with a swiss knife. Sorry... Will most likely tie my hands behind my back next time.

Yes it was, @DrFinkelstein. But you were definitly recorded on a lower level than Ninsage & I, I believe.

Great podcast! I have to admit that I grew up more of a Sega guy and it all culminated in the glory that was the Dreamcast. Sega did just about everything right with that system. Games like Jet Set (Grind) Radio are what made it special. It was only after the death of the Dreamcast that my main loyalty shifted straight over to Nintendo. I owned all the systems but found the most joy with what Nintendo offered. To be fair, though, Sega still did some great things for a while in the software business. I want that company back.

As for E3, I'm just looking forward to games, games, games. What's in store for the 3DS and WiiU? I don't even personally care if there's a name change or not. To be honest, I most likely won't get a chance to ever play the cool new games on display because I'll still be slogging through Etrian Odyssey. Thanks for the mention Davoid!

Yeah it was quite a transitional battle in my brain about whether or not this game would hook me. I fought the Rhythm and the law won... or whatever. Thanks on the medals comment. I was surprised to finally nail that last medal, which for me was Love Rap 2. I suck at the love raps usually but I got lucky that time. I am surprised I have a Perfect on Remix 6 which contains Love Rap elements. It was kinda luck.

As people are going to start seeing with this episode, I am taking a new approach with the format. Somewhat extending the What Do You Fink? section into something a bit longer to discuss things happening on the boards or in the gaming world. So far, I really liked doing that. I liked shooting the breeze about current stuff and I think being topical and timely, at least to some degree, is good for the podcast. At some point I might make there only be two main topics to allow for more room for topical discussion, but I guess that sort of situation would depend on how news/info heavy the weeks had been.

There was also less music in this episode than episode's past, because I was seeing how things would go as we just kinda meld into topics, perhaps making the enhanced version all that much more useful. I plan to continue to do this too. And I'm not gonna lie, when I was looking for a photo for the break, that kit kat DID look really good and I really wanted one. I'll have to buy one this week at some point.

I hope you enjoyed the rest of the episode, and the ending... there might be more of those endings to come... which maybe I can explain my reasoning after a few people hear it.

Damn. I'll have to double check the audio levels then when I'm pre-processing. To me they sounded pretty good, but I'll try to be as aware as possible. Hope it wasn't too much a bother for others.

I was a Sega guy growing up too, but when the N64 hit I was back on Nintendo since I've always been a Nintendo-nerd at heart. But my Genesis kicked ass and I still love it today. And thanks for sharing your E3 hopes with us in the thread. I'm happy to hear them. I completely agree with your points. Really, I feel like in hindsight, my topic of what we want from E3 is almost arbitrary cause there's SO MUCH to look forward to, why limit it to three things. But it was just a way to focus discussion I guess. Good luck with that Etrian Odyssey game club. I have NO idea what those games are about besides what Davoid had mentioned.

Hmmmm...when listening to the podcast I never noticed any difference in volume levels between the three speakers. Only thing I did notice was Dr. Finks voice seemed to be a tad softer than normal and overall just different than in past podcasts. I'm not saying it was bad or anything, just sounded different.

Great podcast overall!

I heard that as well. I was listening to the podcast last night while laying down, right before going to bed and I would hear that sound and at first I thought there was a bug or something flying around in my house, and like hitting the wall or tv screen or something. I would look around and saw nothing.

Now, at least I know it wasn't just me hearing things.

I did enjoy listening to the rest of the episode!

Some thoughts:

I think doing a more in-depth and less formal 'What do you Fink' segment is pretty interesting and is a great way to touch on some recent topics of the day.

a) I didn't really know much about the Community show, I had not heard of it before, but I will have to check out this special episode.

b) The Kirby compilation disc could be awesome if done right. At the very least it won't be another Super Mario All-Stars (Wii) fiasco where they simply dumped the SNES ROM onto a disc when it could have easily been placed on the VC. I really hope there will be some extra features like had been done in Mega Man Anniversary Collection.

c) Couldberry Kingdom does not really appeal to me either, I'm with you guys.

Topic 1: Digital vs. physical: I'm still not sure how I feel about whether I would prefer one or the other. But I love that we will have the option of either one, I think that's one thing Nintendo will doing quite well.

Topic 2: These two categories (hardcore and casual) always throw me off, and it's true that some 'casual' games can be played 'hardcore.'

Oh, and I just have to say I'm really amazed that Joe's PhD dissertation was 'Defining hardcore in video game culture.' Awesome.

Topic 3: E3 2012: I'm hyped! The Kid Icarus Uprising reveal was definitely a joyous and 'squeal-worthy' occasion. You guys were awesome to listen to when joking about stuff like the 'mature' Ice Climbers remake.

Oh, and when I heard the last segment of the episode, I was both laughing and thinking to myself "what the fuuuu..." It's still not clear to me why this episode centered on a Lion King theme. Of course, I love the music from that SNES game. And that cheat code is real!

I'm fascinated by the way you guys went straight from one topic to the other, it really motivates everyone to stick to the topic (with some push from Stephen of course), but you guys still had some great side conversations as well. Very well balanced.

Excellent job on creating the chapters for the m4a version, Stephen.

Whoa, I think I completely an episode. You mentioned at the end that your last episode didn't have an enhanced version, does that mean it never appeared on the enhanced feed? I guess I'll have to go back and listen to that. In the future if you don't have an enhanced episode, can you at least upload the non-enhanced version to that feed, so I don't miss out? Maybe that would defeat the point, since the enhanced versions are enhanced, but I'd hate to miss another episode just because it didn't appear in my feed.

Anyway, this was a great episode. I miss Guillaume, but I can hear him on RFN every week and that means more Fink! So everybody wins.

Keep listening to future episodes and while the Lion King thing still might not make sense, you will see a pattern emerge if I continue to do what I plan. Believe it or not, that was an intentionally recorded bit and not some random thing during the podcast.

And I'm really happy you enjoyed the elongated What Do You Fink portion. It was a key part of what I think will be a change henceforth.

I could say more about your response but I have to go... but... WATCH COMMUNITY!

Your post has embarrassed me for letting that episode's enhanced version fall to the wayside. I was just starting a new job and my software wasn't working. I tried making one, but it didn't work. I am sorry that I never went back to it and you've reminded me why it is oh so important I don't make that mistake again. I'll go back and make one for you Rebonack, I know you're not the only one who might have wanted it.

Shame on me!

Enjoying it so far. Couple points:

1) I don't think they really need to spruce up Kirby, because, unlike Mario, most people don't have very many Kirby games. I mean, hell, even I don't.

Not that they would've spruced it up, anyway. It'll be interesting to see how many games they throw on there. There are a hell of a lot of Kirby platformers. Maybe just console-only stuff?

2) Do you guys remember that Miyamoto singled out Jet Grind Radio as the game that he was most impressed by at whatever trade show it was revealed at? And, Joe, do you have an Xbox of some kind? I think Future is backwards-compatible.

3) Digital sucks. Theoretically, it's awesome, but, in practice, it sucks. In the digital future, you will own nothing. I'd still go digital for games like Animal Crossing, though. Stuff that should really live on your system. They should release Nintendogs digitally as a practice run.

Yeah, I never understood how PlayStation, PlayStation2 and PlayStation3 don't get confused, but DS and 3DS completely blow people's minds to the point where they think its the exact same thing.

The more we talk about this, the less I think they'll change the name. I mean, it still "primarily" uses the Remotes, right? Wii Remotes. You'd never see an NES Controller on the SNES, or an N64 controller on the Gamecube...but I guess you can use Gamecube on Wii.....

I don't know whats going on. You guys talked forever! With just three of youuu. I always get yelled at for talking long.. sad face

@Mr_Mustache Because there was no PlayStation Lite or PlayStation-i, and because the number in 3DS comes before the name whereas the numbers in PS2 and PS3 come after the name. No revisions* and clear numbering make it easy to tell the PS2 and PS3 were successors.

*I know there were revisions, but in the case of the PS1 and PS2, they came after the successor released and didn't have a new name or added features.
