Why not sign up for a (free) account?

If your parents are tech illiterate, they should be the prime demographic for the Wii, no?

.... ... ... BA DUM CHA!

As to colors, as long as it's black or white imo it's fine. Now if a console launched pink and a white one came out later, I see the significance. Outside of that however I just don't get it.

Collectors

And no. My parents couldn't even get a Wii. They don't even know how to work a DVD player.

He's known on NeoGaf to have numbers but they have to be real vague so that NPD doesn't find out.

Don't forget the Black Wii is also being bundled with other stuff, so in this case there's more incentive to buy it than just the color change.

@Oldmanwinter
First, I think the new bundle came late in the month. Second, I think the color thing is a lot more important in Japan. Third, the new bundle has a lot more going for it than just the color (but the color is absolutely beautiful, and I am envious).

EDIT: Damn, CB beat me!

I know TONS of people who buy new hardware just because of a new color. Mostly just the diehard fans but still, it'll show a boost in overall sales. I've already seen a couple of threads on various forums from people asking if they could transfer their digital purchases from a white Wii to a black Wii.

Personally I'm too poor to spend money on hardware that I could be spending on software. I still have a DS fattie.

A friend of mine has been waiting for the black Wii to jump on board the Wii train, and the WSR bundle sweetens the deal.

As for the NPD this month, not surprising at all. An over-hyped 360 game takes top spot while Nintendo games round out most of the top 10. Good for Monster Hunter if it did sell 125k. I'd wager the Wii slow-burn will affect Monster Hunter as well, it could very well reach 500k sometime this year which is awesome, and means more people online

I'm very, very curious to see how Monster Hunter Tri does on Wii. For all the talk of "core" failures on the Wii most eventually put up 300k or so in NA... which is much more than any Monster Hunter game has ever sold in NA.

Man, if only Tri sold a little better, we could proudly proclaim TOP 10 NPD!!, regardless of the bittersweet circumstances.

I hope that game has legs. It's awesome.

Haha, I was like, "What's NSMB doing so far down??", but it's the fucking DS game.

That's actually pretty weak for Splinter Cell, compared to its heyday, but I'm surprised it even sold that much. That game didn't seem to cause much of a ripple in the community. (Not that I'm really part of any community.)

Well, this makes me wonder how amazing the 3DS must be, because it must replace the king of this gen.

This HAS to be the year of the ps3 isnt it?. And the wii fad will be over!!!.

Glad that Monster Hunter Tri got up there. It released half-way into the month too (20th, right?), so that's something to keep in mind as well.

OMW: I honestly can't say, as I'm a part of the problem. Though I generally don't actually act on that impulse these days due to funds... I would have back in the day, or even last gen.

In fact, right now, with that bundle going on and including IIRC Wii Sports Resort, I'm sorely tempted even now. The ONLY thing keeping me from doing so is the lack of funds, and Ninty's sorta' bass-akwards storage system - meaning my 100+ VC/WiiWare titles won't transfer without pulling many, many teeth.

According to NeoGAF, Monster Hunter only had 10 days of sales but managed to double any previous opening for the series in the West (PSP or PS2).

@Dynablade
Yeah, if I could move my shit more easily, I'd be tempted by the Black Wii, as well, especially considering you can 'trade up' for $50 at GameStop (I think).

I could have sworn I just posted on this.

But yeah, it sucks that it hit number 11 and not 10. Man, it'd have been sweet to finally get a top 10 "core" game.

Ah well, either way it is selling pretty darn well for the franchise. I don't think it's enough to make up for the huge advantage the PSP versions have had in Japan, but for future console versions it should mean something.

Yeah, I wonder what reaction Japanese publishers will have to these PSP numbers. Probably none, since they seem happy to make games only for the Japanese market.
