Stolen from Anandxxx's post on IGN (ps, he's here now... somewhere... lurking?)

Mizuguchi working on Wii music game
Mizuguchi, the man behind Rez and Lumines, has announced that he is working on a music game for the Wii. Right now, the only thing we know about the project is that itís called ĎQJí. Mizuguchi hopes that this game will bring us a new way to play music titles, thanks to the Wiimote. I am so happy to see the Wii getting another music game that isnít in the long line of Guitar Hero and Rock Band clones.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?
I wonder if it's a DJ game?

Q... J...

D... J?

You know it's weird, Wii Music quality argument aside, we haven't really seen a big, high quality exclusive music game on the Wii, though it seems perfectly suited for the genre. DS had Band Brothers and Elite Beat Agents... Wii has Wii Music and Samba de Amigo? Eh.

I'm sorry to bump up this old thread, but... has anything come out of this?

I don't even remember posting that.

Anyway, I don't think there has been any more revealed. Will it be a triumph, or a high-profile flop a la Major Minor's Majestic March?? Time will tell...

I remember confirmation that is was a DJ game, since then nothing...

Hmm, I wonder if a Wii exclusive DJ game has a chance with DJ Hero coming out now. DJ Hero seems like a lot of hip hop though, I want an electronica DJ game.

Sounds interesting. I'm not even showing interest in DJ Hero off principle. RIDICULOUS how many of these things they're putting out now and expecting people to pay money for...

Over-saturation to the nth degree. Per the usual, Activision runs it into the ground.

I remember respecting them a lot more last gen... anyway, not gonna' turn this into a GH bash, sorry about the mini-rant there. :)

Bobby Kotick is the devil. But I respect him, because he DOESN'T EVEN TRY TO HIDE IT.

DJ Hero at least seems unique, but of course next they will just do "Guitar Hero" with guitars, drums, a mic and a turntable. Retailing at the cost of a Wii/360. If we're lucky.

Now the plus side of this music game oversaturation is if you don't care about having the newest version, you can get these whole band games fairly cheap within a year or so of release. I've seen the entire set of Rock Band Wii for $50ish before. And you can get Guitar Hero 3 + guitar for like $20 now, if you look around. I LOL at the suckers paying close to $100-$200 for this stuff.

Meanwhile, the pirates are probably sniggering at US.

Hmm. But can pirates really pirate music games with peripherals? I guess they could buy the instruments and pirate the game, but the instruments are like 75% of the cost anyway.

Holy triple post Batman.

WOW. A TRIPLE post. Awesome.

I'm actually about to put my GH3 and guitar up for sale. I bought it back in January and haven't looked at it since. My music game craze ended rather quickly, lol...

I've never bought a music game, but that Beatles game is pretty tempting, just because it's the Beatles. I actually sang two songs at Best Buy. Right in front of the store. EMBARRASSING. But 97% on both, baby!!

The guitar and bass stuff seems Fisher Price to me, but I enjoy the singing and drums, which resemble actual music more.

Liar, you bought Wii Music. Oh wait, that's not a game. ZING.

Oh and the triple post was actually me posting multiple times, my Internet sucks and I wasn't sure if it was going through. I guess it was.

I think we have already gone through this before but I don't care about The Beatles at all. And even if I did, I'd still prefer a music game with a wide variety of artists.

You have to give it another chance!! I meant a Guitar Hero derivative. I did buy their predecessors, though (FreQuency and Amplitude), which I prefer.

You know, I'm usually not that judgmental about religion or race, or anything, but... you will burn eternally for not listening to The Beatles.

Actually, the track selection was a bit weak, though.

My musical tastes are probably too narrow. The vast majority of the music I listen to can be described as 'Beatlesque'. I kind of don't see the point of music without saccharine, poppy melodies. That's not completely true, but it's close enough. I'm always kind of struggling to resist those impulses.

When you make music, it's kind of interesting to observe how all of your influences are subconsciously filtered into your own kind of style, and to see which ones float to the top. I always thought it was bad to have a 'style', but it probably isn't. Nobody wants to hear a schizophrenic album. (Or even an album at all, probably.)

There's a Nuno Bettencourt album called Schizophonic.

Hmm, I'm totally planning on making some very schizophrenic albums in the future, but you might have a point. I keep trying to at least find an element or two to tie everything together. I think that is the good thing about having a vocalist as well, no matter how all over the place your songs are, having the same vocalist on all of them adds a unique element that ties them together.

I wish Wii Music didn't exist solely because it single handedly caused 99% of the hate the Wii receives today.

The sad thing about Wii Music is that people describe it as a cynical cash-in, a deficient version of Guitar Hero, which it is TOTALLY NOT. It really is an ambitious product that tries to bring the joy of creating (not copying) music to everybody, regardless of their ability. There's something that isn't very satisfying about playing a guitar part perfectly in a game like Rock Band. It's just like listening to the actual song and pressing buttons in time. Where's the creative input? (Vocals are a bit different.) Games like Band Brothers and Wii Music (and Amplitude) are a lot more interesting to me, regardless of how well they were executed.
