This almost feels like a massive troll, months of hype, Joker in Smash and no actual Persona 5, just some... Dynasty Warriors type game?

Ah well, it's something. I guess Nintendo fans can still hold out hopes for Persona 5 Royal coming to the Switch.

It seems so, so weird that they aren't just putting Persona 5 on there. Like... what? After a PLAYABLE SB character??

Hmm, neat. I'll look into this. Not sure if there was any official word from Atlus or...ANYONE saying that Persona 5 was coming to Switch. I think the fans just worked themselves into a frenzy, thinking (wishing) that the game would get ported. Without any, y'know, actual facts. That's the internet for ya.

That said, Joker is playable in this game, he's playable in the upcoming 3DS exclusive, Persona Q 2: New Cinema Labyrinth, and hey, maybe that Persona 5 Royal game (a title I've not heard of until just now) will have him in it and also be on Switch.

I thought the "mainline" Persona games are always locked on Playstation? I heard that Sony has some kind of stake or ownership of that franchise, which is why the main games only show up on Playstation hardware. But Atlus has enough freedom to put the spin-offs on other platforms, like Xbox and Nintendo.

Anyway, I wouldn't take Joker showing up in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a sign that the game he originated from was coming to Switch. I mean, Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII show up in the previous Super Smash Bros. and his original game did not show up on 3DS or Wii U. *shrugs*

Of course there wasn't, that was why the speculation went wild!

I think though what happened is... it just made so much sense. The Switch is the hottest thing in Japan right now, where SMT games sell the most. Atlus is supporting Nintendo consoles lately with multiple SMT games, including the next mainline SMT game and a bunch of Persona side games. Atlus and Nintendo announce the main character from Persona 5 in Switch. Atlus announces with no details a vague "Persona 5 S".

Ultimately it seemed like all of the pieces were lining up. I mean, why WOULDN'T they put Persona 5 on Switch at this point?! They have like every other modern SMT game on Nintendo platforms EXCEPT the main games from their best selling SMT franchise?!

But it did show up on the Switch! Anyway that seems like a bit of a different story, where they took one of the biggest franchises in gaming and took the biggest character from that franchise. Persona feels like an odd team-up.

I guess I'm fine with this...? Since I've already played P5 on my sister-in-law's PS4, I dunno if I'd actually buy it again for Switch (I liked it but didn't quite love it). But I typically enjoy musous, so it's possible I'll pick this up. Fire Emblem Warriors and Hyrule Warriors were both games I enjoyed about as much as P5, weirdly enough.

This is pretty dumb, but from what I've seen, it looks like Persona 5 The Royal is the equivalent of whatever people thought that this was going to be? And that, even though it hasn't been announced yet, it seems obvious for Persona 5 The Royal to come to Switch?

Lots of angry people on Reddit right now. One guy said he had to step out of the office to yell at trees when he heard the news. Poor trees.

I figured it was worth waiting to see if there would be a Switch port of Persona 5, but I have a PS4 and will just pick up the new and improved version when it releases on there I guess. I am interested in seeing what the hype is all about.

As for this Dynasty Warriors type game? No thanks, but I'm sure it will sell well and make some people happy.

They just better not reveal the next F-Zero to be a Dynasty Warriors game and we're good.

@ploot Probably no one would have complained if it was in ADDITION to regular Persona 5 instead of this big Persona 5S tease which built up into everyone imagining the Switch was getting Persona 5.
