Explanations:
Diddy Kong vs. Toon Link
Toon Link has always been one of my favorite characters. I find Diddy Kong pretty cool but also hard to use.

Wii Fit Trainer vs. Samus Aran
Samus Aran is great and all but Wii Fit Trainer was such a Left-Field pick and while I just recently played as both, WFT is more fun to taunt and kick ass with.

Duck Hunt vs. Greninja
Duck Hunt was such a delightful surprise! He's so fun to play as too. Greninja on the other hand… that amiibo hunt was a bitch!

Sandbag vs. Mii Fighter
Sandbag is here because we need to have a 64th option… and maybe it'll move forward, which admittedly would be funny, but Mii Fighter is cool that it's so customizable. I'll go with that.

Young Link vs. Lucario
Before Toon Link there was Young Link and he was my main in Melee. His Termina-based stage also was awesome.

R.O.B. vs. Pit
R.O.B. is a really cool character with a really cool amiibo. Pit is just a boring Kid Icarus character who is a clone of Dark Pit (lol yeah I said it).

Fox vs. Ness
I find both characters fun to be honest but I'll give the edge to the unique powers of Ness.

Mega Man vs. Shulk
I am saddened that these two special characters are put up against each other right away but still… Mega Man has the nostalgia to win me over. Shulk, it's Reyn time, not your time.

Diddy Kong vs. Toon Link
Both are just fine, but at the competitive level Diddy is one of the most boring (and unfortunately prevalent) characters. Toon Links are kinda fun to watch, though.

Wii Fit Trainer vs. Samus Aran
I like Samus, but I've really come to appreciate Wii Fit Trainer's janky moves.

Duck Hunt vs. Greninja
I'm horrible with Duck Hunt, but a great Duck Hunt player is fascinating to watch. Greninja's pretty neat too, but less unique.

Sandbag vs. Mii Fighter
Can't say the Mii Fighters have really caught on for me. Being banned from online play With Anyone definitely hurts them.

Young Link vs. Lucario
Young Link is maybe the worst clone in the series. His differences from Link are minimal AND he got replaced by a much more unique clone in Toon Link. Lucario doesn't have the most exciting moveset but his Aura can swing a match so fast in Smash 4, makes for a cool dynamic.

R.O.B. vs. Pit
I would say Pit and Pittoo are all-around the most balanced characters in Smash 4. No amazing strengths, no crazy weaknesses, easy to pick up. That's not terribly interesting though, so WALL-E gets my vote.

Fox vs. Ness
Not crazy about either...Fox is forever top tier in every game and not always for good reasons. Ness I think has a better balance, very strong on stage but such a vulnerable recovery.

Mega Man vs. Shulk
Shulk fits my play-style more, but a Mega Man who knows what they're doing makes for an interesting match.

Wii Fit Trainer is so unique and weird that she's become one of my favorites...and I adore Samus, so this vote says something.

Duck Hunt vs. Greninja
I'm not much for using the Pokémon, and Duck Hunt is really unique.

Sandbag vs. Mii Fighter
No reasoning behind this vote.

Young Link vs. Lucario
I'd rather have MewTwo than Lucario, even if Young Link isn't particularly special.

R.O.B. vs. Pit
I like both characters, but R.O.B.

Fox vs. Ness
Ness!

Mega Man vs. Shulk
I like how both operate, but I'm more endeared to Mega Man.

This is tough since I like playing as Toon Link, but original characters usually top clones. I quite like Diddy's moveset too.

Wii Fit Trainer vs. Samus Aran
Sorry Samus, but WFT is one of my top three. She's the underdog of this whole series.

Duck Hunt by a mile. What a great idea!

Sandbag vs. Mii Fighter
Errr...Sandbag? Hahah. Sorry mate, gonna have to give it to the playable characters here.

Young Link vs. Lucario
Lucario's inclusion made sense in Brawl even though I don't really like to play as him. Young Link has gotten outdated by Toon Link.

R.O.B. vs. Pit
Kid Icarus stuff is cool and Pit's redesign is terrific. He was the character I was most excited for in the initial Brawl trailer.

Fox vs. Ness
Ness is the only character who's been a main for me in every game. He's also from one of my all-time favorite games, and his quirky playstyle makes him a Smash Bros. classic character.

Mega Man vs. Shulk
Mega Man might be the best-realized character in Smash history.

I actually use Diddy more than Toon Link, but I just generally love the little Hero of Winds too much.

Wii Fit Trainer vs. Samus Aran
Wii Fit Trainer was there for me when I was pushing to lose those pesky lovehandles. I will never forget.

Duck Hunt vs. Greninja
I vow to one day learn Duck Hunt effectively. It's just too great an idea!

Sandbag vs. Mii Fighter
I wish Mii Fighters were allowed online. It seems like wasted potential.

Young Link vs. Lucario
For some reason I just really dislike Lucario and Greninja.

R.O.B. vs. Pit
A close call, but I'll give it to R.O.B.

I LOOOOVE Earthbound to bits, but I am more effective with good ol' McCloud.

Mega Man vs. Shulk
Both of these characters' debut videos had me MAJORLY EXCITED. Shulk was my #1 dream newcomer... After Mega Man was unveiled.
