Fans and listeners new and old, welcome and hello! We have an exciting episode for you today on this American-holiday weekend. We present to you the Bulby/Trivia Special edition of the Negative World Euphonic!

This over-three-hour-long episode of the Euphonic podcast has a very special theme with a very special premise. Bulby is a man who spends a lot of his time involved with his passions for 8-bit sounds and video game music. Just check out his YouTube page. He frequently uploads new videos which showcase this man's talents. Typically he creates 8-bit renditions of non-8-bit video game tracks and has a particular fondness of Nintendo. With his blessing we wanted to showcase some of his work and celebrate what he has done. The idea evolved over time into one of a Trivia special.

In this episode you'll find Tim (ShadowLink), Matthew (TriforceBun), and Grant (GameDadGrant) as three contestants joining Joe (Ninsage) and Stephen (DrFinkelstein) as we explore Bulby's expansive catalog of music. The gimmick? No, it's not motion controls, but instead after the contestants try to figure out what song is being remixed, the person who got the correct answer fast enough had a shot at a trivia question related to the game/song/franchise. It was a lot of fun and now you have a chance to hear it! We even had some special guests show up like a certain 'spy', 'bird', and 'professor'. It was a revolving door of special guest appearances!

We explore songs from most of Nintendo's consoles and handhelds and the trivia is a unique mix. How well do you fare? Feel free to keep score for yourself as we'll explain and answer every single trivia question in the show. Can you beat Tim, Matthew, or Grant? Download, listen, enjoy, and find out. Then go visit Bulby over at his various webpages and support this guy would ya? At the very least, spread the word. This music deserves to be heard!

You should also consider checking out his new video series, Original Sound Theory. The first episode just released a couple of days ago and it was incredibly interesting. It's about Mario Kart 8's soundtrack and it's well worth the click and view.

You can comment on the music, the show, etc. on Negative World, Facebook or, Twitter.

Enjoy the show! (Also, note that any music contained within this show is a property of Bulby the artist or of Nintendo. The only non-Bulby track contained is our half-way break interlude which features a beloved turtle you may know from a special Nintendo franchise.

@Shadowlink

Thanks Tim. I played a lot of Splatoon and Mighty No. 9 while editing but the way this episode is in small chunks I was able to really get this going smoothly. The timeline looked like this though… lol.

I think you'll find that many others, including perhaps myself even, would have an experience like yours with the songs. I hope others post in here how well they did and play along. If they can keep score, even better!

Wow, very quickly edited! Looking forward to hearing the full thing now. Thanks for hosting this game and providing the schweet prizes, and to Bulby for all the excellent tuneage!

That final showdown was somethin' else.

Wow, my voice quality was scratchy as hell. Like from a bad radio connection. Disappointing. Sorry Fink!

That's ok. Your somewhat scratchy presence was still better than not having you at all!

Great job to all. I listened to the whole show off and on today, and it was enjoyable all in all. I'll definitely be checking out Bulby's other works, as I love chiptunes stuff - especially when it's Nintendo related.

I almost chimed in to be a contestant, but am glad I didn't, as while got most of the songs and trivia questions right, there's no way I could guess the levels correctly. TriforceBun is definitely a force to reckon with! I will say that, while all in good fun, I thought the hosts were a little hard on the third place contestant. Maybe I'm just hyper sensitive, but just reading off the scores without commentary would have been best, I think.

I remember music trivia threads over at IGN that I had fun participating in, so it was good to see a return to such here on Negative World. I'm sure it was a lot of work putting this together, so kudos to you, DrFinkelstein (and NinSage) for seeing it through.

Speaking as the third place contestant, I was cool with it. It was what it was, we all knew it, no need to sugar coat it.

I had the same issue- For the games I could name the songs for, I was hopeless when it came to specific track/level names. And unfortunately that was the key to getting not only the points on offer there, but ALSO accessing the bonus points that came with the trivia questions.

As far as the trivia itself goes, I believe I nailed all my questions, plus quite a few of the others 'off the record' (meaning I typed them into Skype before the official answer) . So I was happy with that side of things. But it's not the way the scoring system worked, so T-Bun got to run riot .

Incidentally had the 'Final Jeopardy' fallen my way I still could have won. Instead I chose to make my score double as a tribute to our supreme overlord Zero .

(Yes that's my excuse and you can't prove otherwise)

@Shadowlink @NoName

We certainly can change things up for a future episode, like including trivia but for all folks to participate in. Maybe change how the trivia is done.

I'm glad everyone had fun though and I'm glad listeners are enjoying the show too, all 3+ hours of it. I do recall a joke or two being a bit harsh on Tim but it was certainly never my intention for him to feel bad. In the individual chat between the hosts and himself he was cracking all sorts of jokes with us. I think that's where the feels came from.

Is anyone keeping their own score?

This episode was super duper fun to record!!

Big thanks to all who participated and all who listened. I know that if we do it too often it will lose its novelty, but I hope it is less than a year before we do it again.

All 3 of our contestants were really awesome to play this game with. Ultimately, in hindsight, inviting a pro-level game dev and musician to be a contestant may have been unfair =P But, that "Blue Shell" came through in the end.

EDIT: Big props to Fink for such great turn around times on the episodes lately!! Makes a world of difference for me when I can hear these convos so quickly after their freshness seal is opened

@NinSage

I would like to do something like this again in a couple of months, but likely with a more promote-able theme so that folks aren't kept in the dark.

Tim suspected it was a Zelda specific event, and that's not a bad idea.

Wow, what a beast of an episode! Remarkable job, everyone! I didn't bother keeping score since I'm terrible at game music. Heck, I'm hardly better at real music. (sick video game music burn!) I'm honestly impressed at how well everybody did, and all the music was really great to listen to. I'm continually amazed at the generosity of everybody's time that contributes to these podcasts, and to the incredible hosts and all the work that they do to keep us listeners entertained.

Thanks Tim!
Thanks Grant!
Thanks Matthew!
Thanks Joe!
Thanks Stephen!
