Nintendo E3 2013 Wii U: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze announced (trailer + images inside!)

Whether you wanted them be or not, Retro Studios has been deep at work on a new Donkey Kong Country game, and they have finally lifted the veil and showed us their work. One of the first things that you will notice is that... gasp!... Donkey Kong and pals swim underwater again in this game!

The enemies this time are viking animals, which works for me, I guess? Also, Dixie is back. I'm pumped, what about you?

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will be released in November of 2013. Get your wallets ready!

Why not sign up for a (free) account?
The game looks great and will probably be fantastic, but Nintendo has a dozen other teams that can do platformers. Why couldn't Retro be doing something like Metroid, or a new adventure IP? It just seems like a huge waste of resources.

Two notes:

Seems like Retro had a choice to do either Metroid or DKC and they chose DKC again because they felt they could still improve upon the franchise.

I can totally see a DKC Tropical Freeze smoothie tie-in happening at a fast food place.

EDIT: I can't comprehend people being disappointed by this. Like, at all.

Whoa. More references to Super Mario Bros. 2!

Mario 3D World has the protagonists (with their Mario 2 powers) and this game has the "plucking" and "tossing" element.

Oh, Mario 2, I love you so. *sigh*

Yeah, we were really (a few of us on here) hoping for some Mario 2-type deal..so while it isn't Sub-Con (OR IS IT WHAT), you still get the 4-P Floaty Princess stuff. Did they show the "overworld" at all?

I too was hoping Retro would cook up something new, or at least move on to another IP. But DKCR was fantastic and this looks even better so it's hard to be disappointed.

Yeah I don't understand the disappointment either. And based on your link... I suspect Metroid is their next move. Starting this fall I bet they'll be cooking up Metroid Prime U. I sure hope so. Holiday next year!!!! maybe...

David Wise? Sure don't show in that trailer... Not liking the trailer music or the style at all. Please bring back the DKC sound of 1 and. For the love of fuck.

@carlosrox I loved the trailer's rendition of that main DKC theme. I'm sure Wise will bring the heat in the more moody stages.

DK, Diddy and Dixie? Check.
Great environments? Check.
David Wise? Check
Kremlings? Nope.

So close to perfection, so close. Should be good anyway. Am I the only one thinking that Retro has TWO secret projects. They have been expanding a ton and them working on a Metroid in secret would literally blow everyones mind. People keep saying Nintendo needs to be surprising, imagine a month from now a ND with Iwata announcing a new Metroid made by Metroid. Press and fans alike would go crazy and the Wii U hype train would start.

Viking animals > Tikis > Kremlings

Oh yes, I went there. And I liked it there so much, I bought a timeshare.

Nate I hereby shove you into a barrel.

You think you've defeated me? This is not the end. Yes, I am sealed, unable to break free of my own strength...but as long as mankind lusts for power, for conquest, for dominance, there will always be those who sail in my wake. And they will find me here, in this barrel, and I will promise them everything, and I will take all they have. And I will be unleashed again, onto a slumbering world, and their nightmares will be real once again!

And as their wails of anguish rise into the night, the immense truth will settle upon them! THEY WILL KNOW THAT THE KREMLINGS ARE JUST AWFUL! SERIOUSLY, THE WORST!

Kremlings had personality. They weren't just normal peons. One thing I loved about DK64 was the cutscenes with the Kremlings. Humorous and added to the charm of the game.

If Aquatic Ambience is there...

I didn't play DK64. I only played the DKC games, where they were ugly buff crocodile things with the personality of your average goomba.

They really came to life in DK64. I also loved the fact that they actually seemed like Henchmen in an army with all the different types of them working under K.Rool.
