ACen 2014: Top 10 Nintendo-related Cosplayers (Plus a Bunch More Cosplay!) [top ten]

We're back! My ACen 2013 top 10 nintendo-related cosplay list was a pretty big hit last year, with close to 5k views, so of course I had to do another one this year! I think this list will be even better, because I actually went to some photoshoots this time, including one that was specifically for Nintendo characters. However, I want to focus on individuals and small groups of people who were clearly together, so I'll put some of the bigger group photos after my list, as well as the non-Nintendo and non-video-game stuff. Plenty of cosplay for everyone!

As for missed opportunities, I guess my big failure this year was missing the Phoenix Wright / Professor Layton photoshoot by about 10 minutes. Hey, it's tough for me to wake up before noon on the weekend! Oops.

Don't forget to let me know which ones were your favorites in the comments below!

Crono (Chrono series)
Gotta love some representation of one of the best RPGs ever made! I don't think the real Crono used a wooden sword though. /EDIT As was nicely pointed out in the comments, Crono does indeed start with a wooden sword. My bad!

Andy and... another Andy (Advance Wars series)
Gee, I wonder why these guys made my list? Possibly because Advance Wars is one of the best game series ever and Andy is one of the best characters from one of the best game series ever? I swear I'm not biased or anything.

Goomba (Super Mario Bros. series)
Similar in concept to the Chef Kirby from last year, but still pretty neat. I wonder how tiring it gets to be in a costume like that all day long?!

Link (Legend of Zelda series)
A pretty simple, yet effective Link. Not much else to say about this one.

Pirahna Plant (Super Mario Bros. series)
A very creative Pirahna Plant. And it turned out that I actually know the guy from Facebook. Although I'm not totally sure how, to be honest. I assumed from this site but...

Midna (Legend of Zelda Series)
A pretty darn sweet Midna. Might have ranked her a bit higher except that we already had one on the list last year. There were actually a couple of Midnas running around this year. Either that or I kept running into the same one.

Mario, Luigi, Toad and Lakitu (Mario Kart series)
I thought this Mario Kart group was pretty sweet, and the Lakitu sealed the deal for me. But shouldn't Lakitu have his own kart now? But then who rescues Lakitu?! Man, Nintendo games can be confusing at times.

Villager and Isabelle (Animal Crossing series)
Look at that head!!! And those eyes... those unblinking eyes. The thing of nightmares. I think I probably would have ranked this pair higher if he had went with an axe instead of a net.

Fox McCloud (Star Fox series)
I honestly didn't expect to see any Star Fox cosplay, so this was a neat surprise. And the fact that it was actually really well put together was an even neater surprise. But where is the Arwing?!

Fi (Legend of Zelda series)
This Fi was pretty much perfect. She? even had those dead blue eyes, making me wonder how the heck she? saw where she? was going. Gotta love some Skyward Sword cosplay!

I'll put the rest of my cosplay pictures in the first reply below.

Video Game Cosplay

The big Nintendo photoshoot! Lots of great characters in there, mostly from Mario and Zelda.

A picture of me and my Facebook buddy Tony who may or may not be a part of this site.

Toad and Toadette representing. Those are some big hats. Heads?

Some more Mario Kart. Well, probably just the same people again.

The Legend of Zelda photoshoot. Pretty epic.

I honestly can't remember who the guy with the glowing thingy is... anyone?

Sheik being all Sheik-like. Pretty cool.

And of course some newer Zelda representation with Hilda from Link Between Worlds.

A bunch of Little Macs teaming up on Bear Hugger.

The 90s RPGs photoshoot. Anyone know what game that guy on the right is from?!

Battle scene. Gotta love the action!

Ness and more Ness. Giving the classic Ness photo pose.

Everyone went nuts when that girl on the right showed up... who is she again?!

Well, this is certainly one way to do some Pokémon cosplay.

A pretty simple Ash and um... some other girl I don't know.

Fire Emblem photoshoot. LOTS of people did the avatar character.

Some of the ladies of Fire Emblem. Can't quite place them all.

The Black Mage. Pretty sure I saw him last year.

Sephiroth. Or chibi Sephiroth? Pretty sweet either way.

Lots of Kingdom Hearts cosplay going on. The keyblade was a popular accessory.

Mortal Kombat versus Street Fighter. Who will reign supreme?!

My cousin Jim hanging out with Cammy. Jim was a fan.

Mass Effect photoshoot aka 7 Commander Shepards and... someone else.

Bioshock Big Daddy. Complete with sound effects!

A trio of Big Daddies. Wouldn't want to run into that!

I have no idea what these two are from so I'm going to assume Silent Hill.

I'm not just taking random pictures of high school girls! That's Chie from Persona 4 aka one of the best RPGs ever!

Hotline Miami aka the game where you dress up like a chicken to murder people.

Other Assorted Cosplay

Not really a cosplay shot per se, but there is a bit in there. Oh, and that is me there.

My cousin Jim again. It was his first ACen, he seemed to be enjoying himself.

No-Face from Spirited Away relaxing with a girl.

Oh heck yes! Freaking Porco Rosso cosplay yo!

And... The Brave Little Toaster! Too bad my picture came out blurry.

Not sure what this was. The guys seemed to be enjoying themselves though.

Robots? Mechs? I honestly have no idea.

Tony Tony Chopper from the One Piece manga / anime series.

No clue what this guy was from. Looked pretty neat though.

The Witch-King from the Lord of the Rings movies.

A big ol' Chewbacca appears! Wonder how hot it gets in there.

Boba Fett on his way to a business meeting, I presume?

Some good ol' fashioned Monty Python cosplay for you.

Not really sure what this is supposed to be. Looked cool though.

The same with this one. An iPod or something?

No clue what this is from. If anything. But you gotta respect a dude who wears a mailbox on his head.

Seseme Street Yip Yips! And they totally stayed in character too.

And last but certainly not least, Scooby mother Fing Doo!

And that is that! Remember to tell me in the comments who your favorites were, Nintendo-related or not!

Not sure who the guy on the right is supposed to be. But he looks like a Webelo.

Great pictures, Zero! It looks like it was an awesome event.

To answer a few of your cosplay questions:

That Zelda character with the glowing eye is the Poe Collector.

The character posing next to Ness is Duster from Mother 3.

I believe that large group of eccentric characters above Tony Tony Chopper are from the anime Kill la Kill.

That ipod-looking thing with sunglasses is the Summertime Song Cassette from Regular Show.

That guy with a mailbox on his head is wearing a Fad Freak Suit from the cartoon Ed, Edd, and Eddy.

Fi is awesome! Well done! I also am a fan of the Mario Kart cosplay.

This guy is supposed to be the shopkeeper demon thing from when Hyrule goes to hell in the Adult Link timeline of Ocarina of Time… I think. I don't recall his actual name though. Anyone? Tim (aka Ocarina super-fan)

Edit: Octorockin beat me to it! That's a better description. Poe Collector.

Those Bioshock Big Daddies are awesome. Love each take on them.

That's Officer Jenny, a member of the police force from the Pokémon anime.

EDIT: Also, Crono totally uses a Wooden Sword. It's the default weapon you start the game with.

My bad on Crono. I guess he nailed it then!

@GameDadGrant

That Officer Jenny is super cute. I need to get my girlfriend into cosplay. Hell, I'd join her. Best I'll probably get is Halloween though.

The Sephiroth is based on his low poly in game appearance.

That Big Daddy is wicked.

The rabbit-hat girl and her friend are from Adventure Time.
Posted: 05/20/14, 01:36:25
Scooby nothin'! How could you only get the back of the all-omnipotent and psychotically superior Kefka!? :P
Posted: 05/20/14, 02:17:25
No-Face is sitting next to Chihiro from Spirited Away.

The glowy eye thing next to Link looks like the Poe person that asks you to hunt special poes in Ocarina of Time (in Castle Town).

Also, that Misty is ripped!

EDIT: Brave Little Toaster guy, what a fantastic idea! Looks well-executed too.

@Octorockin
Yep. It's Kill la Kill which is a show you should all totally watch.
Posted: 05/20/14, 10:31:55
I am fucking conflicted right now.

These characters (in the case of the second pic, the rightmost one) are causing the opposite reaction to what they should. I don't know what's going on.

I wish I could have gone so that I could beat up Fi.

The Sephiroth is probably the funniest one. Clever.

Link is my favorite. Ahem.

And that isn't Proco Rosso, its Pigma Dengar.

@Shadowlink

Liiiike...what do you mean? You like it, and you don't know why? Or you don't like it?
Posted: 05/21/14, 01:25:25
@Mr_Mustache

Just that it's all backwards and thus confusing
Posted: 05/21/14, 01:52:13
If liking the look of that Link makes me gay, then sobeit. I'm gay for that girl Link.
Posted: 05/21/14, 01:53:16
@kriswright

But are you gay for Moleman?
Posted: 05/21/14, 01:58:47
Girl Link? Gay for Moleman?

What's happening in this thread.
