Time for your bi-weekly (or is it bi-monthly?) dose of the Negative World Podcast! Listen to Andrew (Zero), Paul (Ploot) and Guillaume (duh) talk about Actraiser, Uncharted 2, Pr. Layton and the Last Specter, Zen Pinball, The Simpsons Arcade Game and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.

The crew follow this up with discussions about the stigma of playing dedicated handheld systems in public; is there a place in Nintendo's future for stuff like F-Zero, Pilotwings, etc; and games that combine several genres. Zero shocks Guillaume and Ploot by announcing his upcoming sex change.

As usual, the theme music comes from Negative World's owner and dictator, Zero. The music throughout the podcast is taken from Actraiser.

Comment on the topics, the podcast, the guests, the host, etc. on Negative World! Or, be a weirdo and post them on Facebook or Twitter instead.

It usually takes me a while to listen to the ones I'm on.
I am very judgemental of myself, being the Kryptonite I am.

@ploot

You're crackling kryptonite this time to boot, ploot! But it's not as annoying as I feared.

Okay, so now the three people who were on the podcast commented: time for some REAL comments!

...

*crickets*

Still crickets from me. I *might* listen to this tomorrow but I will surely listen probably Wednesday while at my other job. When I'm working for them, I always listen to either the VVVVVV soundtrack or Podcasts. I usually work for about 4-5.5 hours straight at that job... so this will be a good podcast to have along with Radio Free Nintendo.

@ploot

If you download Zen Pinball you better add me to your friend list! Grrrr!

@Abdooooo
I... I don't have you on my Friend List?! We should remedy that! I don't have my 3DS with me at the moment, so just check out my coed in the 3DS thread. I'll do the same.

I did get it, by the way.

@ploot

Yesh, you've been added and have been sitting dormant for a couple forte nights.

I am a poo head! I'll add you tonight.

Just started giving it a listen! So far have only listened to the first topic: the stigma of playing dedicated handheld systems in public:

I'm pretty much the same as Zero; I carry around my 3DS just about everywhere I go, and if I have an opportunity to play for some amount of time, I will do so, without hesitation. As Gui said it best, "I will whip it out in public." No shame! This is especially true in waiting rooms (haircut, car shop, doctor's room, etc) and less so for commutes since I mostly drive everywhere. I love playing on a long flight as well.

And I don't think anyone mentioned this, but it's so much easier to play games on your phone contraption without getting any stares simply due to the fact that no one knows what you're doing! You could be browsing the web, sending text messages, playing games, doing whatever… since virtually everyone has one, you kind of blend in with the environment any time you are looking at your cell phone, regardless of what you're actually doing!

I'm going to feel like an old dude for saying this, but these people nowadays, no matter if I'm at work, walking at the mall, it is kind of sad to see people walking around, not even paying attention to their surroundings as they are hunched over their cell phone pressing and swiping away at who knows what. Of course, it's most dangerous in the driving situations, but it's crazy seeing some co-workers climbing stairs while checking their phones and having near misses all the time.

I agree with you. Similarly, people sitting at restaurants don't seem to keep one another's attention anymore.

You make a good point about the "camouflage" of the cell phone, but a lot of people are still playing games. Yes, even the ones who give you weird looks for playing NSMB.

Were you guys talking about Drederick Tatum? He's that boxer on Simpsons.
I don't remember a wrestler though (in the game). Was there? He's not the Mike Tyson boxer dude?

--Man, Path of Radiance shoutout. Scary. Pressure is on.
Does anyone want to DM? Thats a legit question. Or if someone wants to help me out, cool beans.

I feel like I'm gonna put too much on your guys' plates.

@Mr_Mustache

You will do fine I am sure, just go easy on us starting out, us Fire Emblem virgins may get scared off.

@Mr_Mustache

It isn't Tatum. I thought about it later on and I realized it was that wrestler that's on TV, that makes Moe say "look how disgusting this is, he's kissing his own muscles" or something. You see him for like a second, in the show.

I'm listening to the podcast now -- good stuff!

I never played the Simpsons Arcade Game, but I don't have much interest in it either. I dunno if anybody's played The Simpsons Game, for 360/PS3/Wii, but it's pretty good. The gameplay is alright but the production values are really good. It's got a lot of funny writing by the show writers, tons of hilarious video game references, and voices from the show. And it doesn't crib just from the first season like the Arcade Game apparently does. I'd definitely recommend it. Check out my review!

I've never played a Fire Emblem game before. I've been kind of intimidated, and it sounds like maybe I should give it a shot since I own one on 3DS!

I don't believe I ever got around to commenting on the Simpsons arcade game, but what I was going to say was that I never really thought it was particularly great. It was fun, but always felt like a weaker Turtles to me.

@Guillaume "I have no problem pulling it out in public!"

I have no problem playing my 3DS in public. I play it on my break at work, at the mall, on airplanes, etc. I'm sure there are judgmental people out there, I just don't care.

Speaking of dead franchises, I want a new StarTropics. (And now Guillaume said it as I was typing this.)

Now I'm waiting for Zero to bring up Henry Hatsworth in mash-ups. Because it rules.

On topic 2, is there a place in Nintendo's future for stuff like F-Zero, Pilotwings, etc:

Lots of sales talk... I have trouble keeping track of the stuff, so I can't say which game sells well and which doesn't. I will say though, Gui made a great point at the end of this topic concerning Nintendo's unpredictability. If a new Punch-Out could come out of nowhere as it did on Wii, who's to say we won't see another old franchise release with a new iteration?

I hope it's not true we won't see a new F-Zero game, it would be an awesome showcase for the 3DS. It's been too long; the last entry was F-Zero Climax for GBA in 2004, and it was a Japan exclusive. That same year, North America got F-Zero GP Legend for GBA.

On topic 3, games that combine several genres:

Henry Hatsworth is an example of a game I would like to play, especially after reading Zero's review. Of course Zero would mention this game! I A game that came to my mind was Puzzle Quest, mixing puzzles and RPG elements, but I haven't played it either. I also haven't played Dokapon Kingdom but I've heard good things about RPG + board game.

Great mention of Mario RPG's by Zero, I loved Bowser's Inside Story. And Gui talked about Mario Galaxy; I really enjoyed all the non-platforming sections, like rolling the ball... but I didn't like the trash destruction. Ugh

Cool mention of Everything or Nothing. I haven't played it, but I do have Nightfire for GCN, another solid Bond game. I liked the driving sequences, and I assume EA's racing expertise also contributing to making these segments feel very solid and enjoyable.

@roykoopa64

Just checking to see if people are paying attention.

We mentioned Agent Under Fire when we recorded but I edited it out. It was a good game but EoN had quite a bit more gameplay variety.
