I had heard this hinted at but I don't believe that we had seen an official announcement before today. Capcom claims it is "redefined."

Featuring additional content including a terrifying new enemy, extra difficulty mode and the opportunity to play as Hunk and other characters from the series in the online co-op and single player Raid Mode.

Hitting North America on May 21 and Europe on May 24.

DAY FUCKING ONE BABY!!!!

I didn't get to play much of it on 3DS but I liked what I played. Small screen and neck/hand cramps as well as 3D effect making it hard to enjoy (I hate playing with 3D off too) spoiled much of the experience.

Very happy I get to play what seemed to be a good entry in the series and a step in the right direction.

Wish it was Wii U exclusive since the original game was for Nintendo system and used touch screen. Why do those other 2 fucks deserve it?

Day 1 Wii U.

Ha ha well "deserve" has nothing to do with it, it is Resident Evil so it will sell well on all platforms. At least it is actually coming to Wii U, despite originating on a Nintendo platform I worried that Wii U might get screwed. This may bode well for the Wii U getting future Resident Evil games as well, although I'm not sure how much I care about that anymore. Haven't even picked up 6 on my PS3 yet and not sure if I ever will.

Awesome! I only played the first couple stages on the 3DS but I enjoyed what I played. I'll be buying the Wii U version for sure.

Hmm, I thought it was digital only but it appears to be a retail game as well? And it is launching at $49.99. Kind of (VERY) steep for what is essentially a 3DS port.

@Zero
Well it's an HD port with extra features. Considering that we're talking about Capcom here, I'm honestly a bit surprised it's not $60.

Hmm... I've never played a Resident Evil game on the PC before, I wonder how the controls are. That would probably be my play here, get it for cheap on Steam unless there's some reason to get it on Wii U.

@DeputyVanHalen I suppose so. I just didn't realize this was a retail release. I thought they were doing something like how a lot of retail Wii games would get ported to PS3/360 as cheap digital releases (Muramasa, Dead Space Extraction, etc.) But then again this is a big, meaty Resident Evil game, so I guess it makes sense that they're not just dumping it into the digital world for $15 or something.

So a disc version will be available from day 1 for all platforms, but the download version will only be available right away on PC and PS3. Xbox 360 and Wii U will follow. I wonder why that is. Would it maybe just be that Nintendo puts up new stuff on Thursdays on the eShop? I don't know what day Xbox puts up their stuff.

I'm a bit torn about this. I loved the game for the most part. I still play Raid Mode every now and again. But $50 is a lot for a game I've already played and doesn't really add all that much (for me at least). Probably the only selling point for me would be online. I never really tried it with the 3DS version.

@Zero
Yeah, it's not that old and while it's not quite as huge, it's pretty much universally considered to be better than RE6. There also likely isn't a ton of crossover between serious 3DS gamers and the people who would buy it on the other platforms.

I didn't know Muramasa got released on the other consoles. I knew about Extraction being a free bonus on the PS3 version of Dead Space 2 though.

@gojira
I've noticed a lot of multiplatform retail games now are on the PS store day 1 but aren't on Live for weeks or even months after. I wonder if it has something to do with what the publisher's cut is on each platform?

@DeputyVanHalen

I've never purchased a 'retail' game digitally before and I don't own a PS3 so I guess I'm not all that familiar with what is usual for the systems.

Nice to see this getting more recognition. I won't double dip at that price, maybe when I find it on discount in a year or so.

also, this:

Hmm, was great as a handheld experience, for me playing it on a TV would ruin some of the immersion, won't double dip. Also this will be like $30, no way they can charge $60...

Hope this doesn't mean no more RE for 3DS.

@deathly_hallows
The press release specifically says $49.99.

Pretty smart move on Capcom's part. Considering how disappointing Resident Evil 6/Operation Raccoon City and to a lesser extent, Resident Evil 5 were, this will remind people that this franchise doesn't suck.

More companies should port their 3DS games over to Wii U, so there will actually be games worth playing on it.

The first part wasn't trolling, I was being honest.

The second part is me trolling HARDCORE, though.

Really? That's nuts! The 3DS version is $20! This game will drop in price, quickly.

@carlosrox

More people being able to play a good game is a good thing.

I hope it does well; it deserved to sell better than it did (especially when you compare it to RE6 and ORC). I'd like to see more RE games like this in the future.
