Torrance, Calif., (January 16th, 2013) - XSEED Games, an independent-minded publisher, today announced they have come to an agreement with Nintendo that will bring the highly anticipated action role-playing title, Pandora’s Tower™, exclusively to Wii™ in Spring 2013. Developed in Japan by Ganbarion, Pandora’s Tower takes the classic fairytale theme of a maiden in distress and adds a violent twist, with the protagonist setting out to slay over a dozen giant monsters and collect their flesh in order to free his beloved from an evil curse. The agreement with Nintendo grants XSEED Games exclusive publishing rights to Pandora’s Tower in North America.
“It’s fantastic to be bringing such a highly-anticipated title like Pandora’s Tower to such a vocal fan base,” said Shinichi Suzuki, President and CEO of XSEED Games. “North American gamers have been very patient in waiting for this game to be released, and we’re confident they will be pleased when they get their hands on the title.”
A tale of unfortunate circumstances, Pandora’s Tower opens in the Kingdom of Elyria, where an unassuming singer named Elena succumbs to a wretched curse during a festival performance. Bearing an arcane mark on her back, she starts transforming into a savage monster, causing the town guards to attempt to kill her in order to prevent it. A young ex-mercenary named Aeron, whose heart has forever been pledged to Elena, whisks her away in the nick of time – and with the help of a mysterious witch named Mavda, he learns what must be done to avert her wretched fate. He must descend into The Scar, a massive chasm tied down by twelve chains connected to a floating island in its center, atop which sit thirteen interconnected towers. There, he must use his sword and a sacred chain to battle his way through each tower and extract the flesh of the boss “masters” that dwell within, which Elena must consume in order to reverse her ongoing transformation. But the clock is ticking! The longer Aeron takes to vanquish each beast, the less human Elena becomes, affecting her character and the game’s final outcome in a profound manner. Time is of the essence...
Pandora’s Tower was developed in Japan by Ganbarion in conjunction with Nintendo, exclusively for Wii. The game will be published by XSEED Games in North America in Spring 2013. XSEED Games will release more product updates in the coming months.
Many thanks to TheBigG753 for bringing us the news!
Normally, I wouldn't be interested in this type of game. But I remember listening to an RFN podcast a while back (might have been over the summer) and in the reader mail someone described this game, and all of it sounded like things I would want. Definitely will be checking this out!
Oh, and how 'bout Operation Rainfall, right? That stuff never works. I'm stunned that we are sitting here a few years later, and all 3 games have made it over to North America. Huge success story.
I heard it's a bit dark and disturbing, bringing the flesh of monsters for your girlfriend to eat so she won't turn into a monster herself. I get a little bit of a Shadow of the Colossus vibe from the premise, but I think this one has a more involved storyline. And dungeons, so that's a move in the right direction. I'm certainly going to keep my eye on it.
Yeah, I'm really impressed with the entirety of Operation Rainfall, and it feels great that I was part of the movement, what with the letter writing to Nintendo and various related activities.
I followed through on my words before, resulting in buying, finishing, and thoroughly enjoying Xenoblade and The Last Story. I look forward to Pandora's Tower! It's unfortunate it took this long for it to happen (especially now that the Wii U is starting to gain momentum), but that won't hamper my enjoyment of the game.
So the rumour was true. I must say, I'm a bit surprised that it is coming at this point. Also it makes my totally accurate initial Rainfall prediction wrong (I predicted Xenoblade announced in 2011, Last Story announced in 2012, Pandora's Tower never announced.)
Rainfall was a total success! Have you guys been following them since? I kind of think they have too many "campaigns" for too many different games now, so none of them get any real momentum. I think they should have just sat back and waited for the next big thing and launched another mega-campaign.
Very true. You have to give them their due for how passionately they went about doing this. Shows you that not everything is impossible if you're really willing to try. All told, this is a great story.
B-but.... Skyward Sword was the Wii's swan song. All the articles from November 2011 told us so!
Seriously though, very, very glad to see this coming out in NA. Originally I was more interested in this game than either of the other two OpRa titles. Then I played a bit of it and was completely turned off by the gross-out factor. As I said on the podcast recently, if it got an official NA release I would give it another chance. SO! Another chance it shall receive!!
This news is kinda funny, since I just got done listening to the latest Radio Free Nintendo podcast, and Jonny Metts said this game has "no hope" of ever coming out here in North America. I would have agreed with him of course, prior to this press release. Color me surprised.
I kept hitting refresh on Amazon but I still couldn't preorder the game. I rarely preorder and/or pay full price, but Xseed deserves 100% of my money. Pandora's Tower was my #1 game on the list of Operation Rainfall games.
Cool, the one game in Project Rainfall I was actually interested in. Although I did play a bit of Xenoblade and thought it was good. This will probably be a day one purchase for me if only for the messed up nature of the game.
