According to a Tweet from Jools Watsham of developer Renegade Kid, there will be a new FPS game coming to the 3DS, possibly by the end of this year.

Polygon.com said:
The game, which is a new intellectual property, was revealed in the first issue of Nintendo Force. According to Watsham, the title could be the first FPS for the Nintendo 3DS. Few other details were revealed, though the game is expected to release sometime in the 2013 holiday season.

There was also news that the game will be playable at PAX East, which takes place this March.

For fans of the DS's Dementium and MOON games, this is great news. What about you? Excited? Not interested? Sound off below!

I would accept Dementium 3DS, a direct sequel to Dementium 2, as a brand new intellectual property, but I'm sure that won't be it. :(

Day 1, regardless.

Yup.

This is the thing I've been dreaming about since the 3DS was announced. I hope it supports stylus, CPP dual analog, and CPP lefty stylus.

@deathly_hallows

Hmm if I was to get this game I would need to track down a CPP for 3DS XL.

@Stephen
The CPP XL isn't available in NA for some asinine reason known only to Nintendo.

Also this is an eShop game, not retail, which is a little disappointing, I want to give you money Jools! Let me give you money!

I'm quite interested in this, however ....

You guys don't buy eShop games or something? I bought four times as many 2012 digital releases on 3DS as I did retail ones, you are missing out.

@Guillaume

Me too. I have five retail games downloaded on my 3DS and a ton of VC and eShop games on there. Not sure what the problem with it being eShop only is...

@Guillaume

Not really. I did ask for an eShop card for Christmas and so far have purchased the excellent Liberation Maiden. Not sure what to get next, but, in general, I prefer physical copies.

@Guillaume I love eShop games but I also feel a bit sad in some cases when something that was previously at retail becomes eShop only. There are some meaty eShop games but you kind of know that they won't be quite as meaty as they would have been at retail.

Sort of. Although plenty of retail products are tiny.

You know what I'm saying though. If they decide in advance they are selling it for $10 or whatever, the budget will be smaller from the start, which means the game will probably be smaller as well.

@Zero

Remember that what a budget can do isn't a static thing over time though. A small budget in 2013 can outdo a large budget from the SNES era. I've been playing some downloadable indie games lately that are definitely more meaty than lots of SNES games.

We have a pretty big announcement coming up later this month. Something FPS lovers and 3DS owners might be happy about. :)

This was from a year ago!?

Anyway, there will be an announcement this Friday.

But I'm a bit confused here, didn't they already announce Cult County? Is this something else? If so, why do they keep saying "our FPS for 3DS" and not "one of our FPS for 3DS"? Or... is Cult County not an FPS? I thought it was for some reason, but now I'm looking at it and it looks more like Condemned or that line of game... first person, with some shooting, but not strictly an FPS?

@Zero
This is confusing me too. I'm pretty sure we'll have to consider Cult County announced since it has an official website, and screenshots and what have you. But if so, as you say, why don't they talk about two games at this point? Even if one is meant to be more of a survival horror or adventure game in first person, wouldn't it be a good idea for them to differentiate the two games a bit when talking about them?

Whatever happens this friday, I'm sure it'll be something sweet. I just hope Cult County is still coming, 'cause I thought it seemed interesting. Also because I like the spooky stuff.

Maybe it's that Moon Chronicles game that they recently copyright'd?

Hm. I'm not really into FPS games, but I'm curious about what Renegade Kid is going to reveal. They do really good work!

All these Moon news and references from Jools can't be coincidental, can they? I think you're right.

@r_hjort

Well the game did just celebrate its 5th year anniversary which is apparently why he talked about it so much. Coincidence or not, who knows. We'll find out soon enough.

All I gotta say is, if the game has multiplayer, it better be playable online.
