From Nintendo World Report:

Wii Virtual Console games will transfer over and be playable on Wii U. In an interview with ABC News, Nintendo Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Scott Moffitt revealed that users would be able to transfer over their Wii Virtual Console games. These games would retain their original display resolution, as they do on the original Wii.

Slim details, but good to hear!

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

I expected this, but it's good to confirm it.

That's freakin' awesome.

Do you think WiiWare is included in that too?

I never downloaded any VCs to my Wii.

That's probably good, cause I won't be needing to do transfers and stuff.

I'm not planning on getting a Wii U before than 1/5 years from now, so I won't be having problems with eShops and such when I get my hands on one hopefully.

Maybe now is a good time to make a list of virtual console games I wanted in my Wii, so I can get them, in my new console I will get as soon as the right time comes.

"These games would retain their original display resolution, as they do on the original Wii."

Think they're just covering bases or that actually means something. Whats more important to me is HOW! I have my games saved and my club nintendo account but no more wii

I'd have to imagine that the games will transfer over and just work within the confines of whatever the new emulators can do (save states and what have you).

Would REALLY like to get a glimpse at the kind of dashboard that the WiiU will have.

Thank heavens.

I really doubted they'd do this and was totally prepared for some bullcrap excuse about how the system owned the game and not the owner.

I assumed we we going to have to re-buy all our titles.

I'm curious to see if and how our Club Nintendo accounts will be linked to any future purchases. I guess they'll do it the same way as on the 3DS.

A bit of advice to everyone: Don't go selling your Wii just yet. You'll probably need it to transfer over the games to your Wii U, just like with the DSi and the 3DS.

I've known this all along. I was never worried.

You know what that means? (Or SHOULD mean at least?) VC games on the tablet. Awesome.

Cool. After 3DS, I thought they would be, but it's nice to see it confirmed. So if I keep my Gamecube, do I need a Wii now? Gamecube controller support in Brawl and other such games would be the only reason that I can think of to keep it.

@Stephen
And that would also be cool.

Awesome! I can move the Wii to my bedroom, much to my wife's delight!

This is very good.

It's funny, because it's a feature that I personally "demanded," but I still half-expected them to weasel their way out of it. If they are trying to instill our trust in digital downloads, it's a necessity. We have to feel like we own our games, even if we don't have a physical copy.

Going by the 3DS precedence, I'll say that no, the WiiWare games (i.e. the only transfers that matter) will not be transferred to WiiU. Prove me wrong Nintendo.

What do you mean by that? With a couple exceptions because of licensing or something, most DSiWare is transferrable to 3DS...

@rebonack

Sorry, I confused the DSiWare with the 3DS digital retail downloads which Iwata said would remain tied to a system. My bad.
