No local multiplayer for 3DS VC games?
News reported by

The manual for the 3DS VC version of Radar Mission contains a passage that went unnoticed either because people don't read manuals, no one bought Radar Mission, or both.

Radar Mission is the only game released on the North American 3DS VC so far that has multiplayer, so it is not entirely surprising that this news has not surface yet. But if this omission is generalized for all 3DS VC games, we can expect gamers to start caring a bit more once games like F1-Race, Waverace, or Pokémon, start appearing on the service.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

Pokemon better get updated.

But it won't.

Maybe I should turn this into news. I am not finding outrage anywhere on the Internet.

My guess is that no one cares, because it's expected that Nintendo wouldn't deliver in this regard.

@X-pert74

Pretty much. Disappointing to be sure but definitely not unexpected.

They never said anything about multiplayer for 3DS VC. Quit demanding everything be handed to you on a silver platter for doing nothing in return.

...someone bought Radar Mission?

Hm, I'm not surprised at this news.

@anon_mastermind

It was an accident.

Not surprised (given that no N64 games worked with Controller Pak functions on the Wii), but a bummer nonetheless. But still, the only game I would be seriously disappointed about with this would be Pokemon. I honestly don't remember playing any GB games other than that.

Serious post?

@ludist210

Yeah, I have to say I'm not too surprised, and honestly not too broken up about it. I kinda' expected that to be the case, especially since that would likely require at least some sort of basic recoding of the game and who knows how that would work (literally and legally).

Aside from one or two games not named Pokemon, I can't think of any GB games I played multiplayer and took seriously. I actually played more Lynx games multiplayer, lol...

...wait, that's not funny, that's kinda' depressing.

@Dynablade

You wouldn't have to recode every game though. Just have that functionality built in to the emulator itself. Like the home button interrupt, or 480p upscaling.

Aw, two player Game Boy Tetris was the BEST back on the school yard. This kind of sucks.

@ploot

I'm pretty sure there is absolutely no chance we will get Game Boy Tetris on the VC, licensing and all.

But it could have been cool. I'm surprised that so many find the feature unimportant. F1-Race was a blast, Waverace, Motocross Maniacs, Dr Mario, etc.

Disappointing news. Not unexpected though. But honestly, I rarely played multiplayer games on Gameboy, so I suppose this won't affect me personally. Tetris on Gameboy is the only one that I really got a lot of use out of on Gameboy, not counting Pokémon. Of course, both of those franchises have updated versions that blow the old ones out of the water, so... yeah. No harm, no foul from my perspective.

Kinda sucks for those that want it, though.

Converting the old style of multiplayer into Wi-Fi seemed almost impossible to expect from Nintendo, anyway. They just don't do that kind of stuff, even though it shows up in unofficial emulators.

@Dynablade
Lynx multiplayer was pretty badass!

@Guillaume
Don't forget Faceball 2000!

@Anand

Well they're doing it for the DSiware version of 4 Swords so we know they're capable of it.

They're remaking it the same way they remade Excitebike, I suppose. But supporting the link cable function in emulation? That they will not do.

Why, oh why, couldn't they remake Radar Mission for the world to enjoy all over again, in 3D?

@Jargon
Haha, maybe they aren't.

No, they're probably recoding that. Does that functionality work perfectly in emulators?

People play multiplayer ROMs over the internet. Surely the 3DS can do AD HOC. Get your shit together, Nintendo.

I wonder if some of you guys even have a 3DS or are just getting angry for the rest of us? I'm pretty capable of getting angry on my own.

Actually I'm not too concerned right now personally, although it definitely limits the VC games I will buy.
