OK Go - White Knuckles 3D video comes with European 3DS system update
News reported by

The 3DS already has its first system update available for Europeans but it isn't simply an update, a message from Nintendo reads

“Dear customer,

Thank you for connecting your Nintendo 3DS system to the internet! We have prepared a 3D video for you to enjoy. This video is included as part of a recommended system update that enhances overall stability and communication features.”

The video is in fact the music video for White Knuckles by OK Go, a video which was filmed in 2D and 3D. You can see the 2D version below.

They always seem to have such fun videos. This looks like a good one for 3D.

Looks like there was a mix-up. North America is the one getting the Ok Go video with their firmware update. The European firmware update will come with this:

Watching 3D videos in 2D makes it seem like the video is mocking you.

This is an amazing video. It's incredibly hard to work with animals, even trained animals.

You can just tell how awesome it's going to be in 3D.

The video we got in Europe is actually very cool to watch, made me go wow.

I'm sure they both are awesome. Too bad we can't just have both.

At least some of the dogs were added post-production (green screen), though, right? Not all, but definitely the ones jumping in front of the camera.

You are correct. Yeah you can tell a couple were added in post but a vast majority were obviously live. Damn that's impressive.

I've heard of OK Go a few times but at least Nintendo was a bit better than Microsoft and didn't choose this video:

I really get a kick out of OK Go. They are such a creative band who seem to really enjoy what they do. Further their music is pretty damn good as well.

So how many times have you guys watched this video? I've seen it about 10 times, I'd estimate. Part of that is because I still don't have any games (fuck you, free saver shipping!!), but the song has also really grown on me, even though it initially seemed really weird. It's actually stuck in my head right now. Yep.

The 3D effect is kind of weak, though. Also, have you all noticed that the 3D slider doesn't affect pre-recorded videos or photos? It's true!

Wonder what the next 'pushed' video will be.

This video sucked, big time. And at first I couldn't even tell that it was in 3D. I really wish we would have gotten the video from the UK.

Anyway, at least the circle pad acts as a make-shift 3D Depth slider for the photos.

On prerecorded videos or photos, I didn't think they would automatically become 3D. I actually like the Ok go video, sure they probably could have picked a different video with more 3D effects, but something like that would probably have costed more. I could tell the video was in 3D, esp.when the dogs and guys would get closer to the camera. Nintendo probably got Ok Go to give thier video for free, told them it would be like getting free advertisement.

After watching the UK's video nothing about that video was extra special. The one scene with the water probably looked like the water was coming out of the screen, but I didn't notice that many more effects that looked they would be popping out of the screen. Just most a bunch of nature shots. Again, probably has to do with money, if they had some movie preview in 3D or something along those lines, that would have costed money.

Both of those videos Nintendo either was able to get for free or paid very little for. Plus after the videos it states on the next update those videos will be erased.

One thing that really made lose focus on the 3D effects was how bad the quality was. Really, most likely the first playback 3D video people will have access to with their 3DS and this is the crap quality they give us?

Also, like @casper884 said, it was really hard to tell the video was even in 3D. Some parts were obvious but there really should have been a better showcase video to give to us.

The European video actually has quite a few pop out effects, the fish, water, flower and fireworks were particularly impressive.
