The 360 had more than 3 titles in the top 10, I wonder why they did that press announcement and only mentioned 3?

MY ORIGINAL POST:

I'll edit with the numbers once they're out, but a lot of info is slipping early. Apparently Nintendo dominated. Here is some early info:

Xbox 360 sells 1.9M units

The interesting part there is that, including multiconsole, 360 only had 3 of the top 10 games. I doubt Sony had any exclusives, which leaves the remaining 7 slots for Wii/DS games? I wonder which ones, evergreen titles or a few new ones slipping in? We'll see soon enough.

From what I've heard PS3 sold much less than 360. Like, poorly. And Wii sold much more.

It's so weird that 3rd parties are basically abandoning the Wii, because whatever lulls it had, it seems to still be strong on top. I'm not sure if Nintendo will feel much pressure to release a new console anytime soon, even with the 3rd parties essentially gone.

Not sure how this was put together, or how accurate it is, but I found it...

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

I'm worried about Ninetndo's software line-up this year. When sales dropped for the console before Nintendo said it had learnt its lesson about regular high-level software releases. I don't know if that is true though.

YAY @ Epic Mickey! It deserves to sell.

WTF @ The MJ Experience....just wow......

I'm not sure if I like the combining SKUs. On the one hand, we see more games in the top 10. On the other hand, we don't see as many exclusives.

Also, on Radio Free Nintendo they had suggested that both Kirby and DKCR were underperforming a bit at retail. Kirby, perhaps. DKCR? No way. It's apparently selling gangbusters, 2 great months so far and will probably have legs.

"For the month of December, the Nintendo DS was the best-selling hardware system, achieving an install base of over 47 million units sold in the U.S., which now surpasses that of the PS2."

Even though I haven't yet played Epic Mickey, it makes me happy that it apparently sold very well.

So glad Epic Mickey sold well. That's what happens when you make a great game with good marketing (brand recognition helps too ). I hope there's a sequel, or at least other games in the same vein. Maybe 3D platformers will make a comeback.

@Oldmanwinter

Don't let the majority of this board turn you off from the game. I'm not saying that my opinion on it is better, I'm just saying that different people react differently to this game (hence the love/hate reviews). Personally, I've been playing the game a lot recently and so far it's a solid 8.5 from me.

Surprised at Epic Mickey. Happy at DKCR.

It's the next Wii game I buy, for sure. I'm sure I like it more than the people here that hated it, however the general trend of reviews kind of bummed me out at release... I was really, really looking forward to a full on AAA Spector game and while I haven't played it that's not what it sounds like it turned out to be.

Regardless it's on the docket for 2011.

Man, for DKCR and Epic Mickey to hang with a bunch of multiplatform games, they must have sold a ton. Wish they'd still publish figures.

Epic Mickey is my next game as well. Loved the little I played of it.

Kirby?
Golden Eye?

I will have to borrow DKCR from someone and see what all the fuzz is about.

Epic Mickey did 1.32 million so DKC Returns could have came close to 1.5 million.

So MS sold 1.9 million 360s, and they have touted "8 million Kinects shipped worldwide". Wish we had European figures to compare and guess if the Kinect sold mostly to existing Xbox owners (or didn't sell that well at all). It seems unlikely that it sold first and foremost to new 360 owners.

Anecdotally, the stacks of those things were pretty big at the Best Buys I visited before Christmas and during the Boxing Day period.

@pgtl_10 Damn. Nice to see Retro Studios kind of justify their worth. Not that they haven't in quality, but saleswise the last two Prime games weren't exactly big sellers by Nintendo standards, despite (I'm assuming) having some of the bigger budgets for Nintendo games.

DKCR seems like a pretty unmitigated success though. It sold 430k in november so I guess it is closing in on 2 million at the moment? Just in the NA territories, I have to imagine it is selling elsewhere too. Is it out in Europe?

Panda (response to other thread): Yeah I guess it wasn't a STEAMROLL after all (some were speculating close to 3M for Wii) but Wii did come out on top. I wonder if it will keep the momentum moving forward? Both Mickey and DKCR seem to be multi-million sellers, not to mention Just Dance 2, so the Wii has been killing in software as well. But there doesn't really seem to be much software to speak of in 2011 so far.

Although there are probably a lot of "on the edge" (IE borderline cancelled/moved) Wii projects that might keep moving forward now after seeing that yes, Wii software can still sell.

WOW. Just wow. Look at the single-SKU Wii game numbers! Just Dance killed the shit, and Donkey Kong and Epic Mickey did very well. And MJ likely sold 90% of its copies on the Wii.

I'm so glad Donkey Kong did well! It's a great game, and a step up in challenge for the NSMB Wii crowd. Nintendo is raising a new generation of hardcore gamers
Also, I'm sure GoldenEye and Kirby did well, just didn't make the top 10. They both likely did over 500k.

I have this weird suspicion that when all is said and done, Donkey Kong will outsell Skyward Sword. I dunno. I hope Zelda sells, it's one of the few franchises that Nintendo tends to go ALL OUT on and just make this vast and amazing (and probably expensive, by Nintendo standards) game. And in the past it paid for itself, Ocarina of Time putting up 10 million copies on N64 or whatever.

But now Nintendo is changing a bit. Someone made a good point, on RFN I think? that it will be tough to explain to the expanded audience in commercials exactly what "Zelda" means. You show a commercial of a 2D platformer, everyone can look and go oh, of course! Zelda, not so much. I'm guessing commercials will mostly rely on showing off the Motion Plus stuff, but that might confuse some people, like... is this just a weirder looking Wii Sports type game?

In defense, Metroid is a tough sell. They did their best. DKCR has nastalga to fall back on similar to the first Prime game. Prime is very different from the Super Metroid all fell in love with so when people realize it wasn't a 2d sidescroller they probably didn't care fore 2 and 3. Also the game was probably compared to FPSs including Halo 2 and 3, and Bioshock so people probably felt other games were better purchases.

I hope third parties get the message and start realizing that third parties do well iof you put the right game and ADVERTISE. How many Silent Hill ads did you see compared to Micky?

GT 5 only did 560k. Ouch if I were Sony.

Need for Speed 906.4 k so We know the floor of the top ten.Unfortunately WOW pulled 1.5 so DKCR is between 1.32 and 1.5 mil.

I'm going to take my bows by sticking to my guns that Epic Mickey was going to be a raving success. Disney knows how to promote. Nuff said.
