Developed by Treasure in 1997, Mischief Makers is one of the only 2D games available on the N64. While Treasure is mainly known for their shmups and run-and-guns, Mischief Makers is a platformer, with a unique "grab/shake/throw" mechanic. Other games have incorporated similar systems in the past, such as Super Mario Bros. 2/Doki Doki Panic and the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, but Mischief Makers' application is unique; resulting in some very imaginative puzzles and level designs. The boss battles are also intense, as is the case with most Treasure games. Mischief Makers received many poor reviews at the time of its release, but in recent years it has built a cult following of fans who appreciate it despite its 2D gameplay on a system primarily recognized for its 3D games.
