Darker than the first, and not *quite* as good but close enough. I used to say this is the last truly excellent Mega Man game, but then 9 came around.
X2 also has one of the most criminally unknown, highly amazing soundtracks in a game. The intro stage theme and the Sigma Fortress 1 themes are so freaking sweet!
