Konami's shoot 'em up, and the 2nd installation in the TwinBee series. The 1st in the series is available on
Konami Classic Series: Arcade Hits for the DS, and is known in North America as RainbowBell.
Professor Einstein J. Cinnamon has been kidnapped! The Attackons of the Ergo Galaxy have taken him, and with his bio-nuclear sweetener, they aim to turn the Planet Earth...into a giant ball of cotton candy! TwinBee and GwinBee are the only ones who can save him, piloting another one of his creations: the Stinger.
In horizontal and vertical stages, the player can shoot forwards, drop bombs below, and launch hearts upwards. Hidden inside clouds above you are giant bells. These can be juggled by any means, and if they take enough hits they'll chance colors. If you grab it at this point, you'll receive a ship upgrade (speed, more firepower, etc.). Should you get it in its standard gold state, you'll receive points, more if you've by passed a new color tier.
Unlike other space shooters, Stinger is much more family friendly. Instead of
rotting horse corpses and
huge brains with tentacles, your foes include guys that look like all sorts of peppermint candy, a huge watermelon, and an apparent potato-based jellyfish-boss with french fry legs.
A sequel down the line to Stinger,
Detana!! TwinBee -- the 5th in the series -- is available for your pleasure on the Virtual Console.
