I think I might've been one of the only people who grabbed this game last year. I still think Nintendo was mad for releasing it at its original price, but I was able to kung fu some store credits together to make the purchase worthwhile.

I'm also just posting because this game just received a free Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Updates include: (via ChatGPT because I'm lazy, plus my own comments)

★ New Playable Character – Dixie Kong
• Dixie Kong is now playable in single-player and local co-op, with her unique helicopter spin jump that lets her float and reach extra height/air time. (I only played one or two levels but I can tell this will completely break this game. For instance, platforms that previously required height from enemy bounces can now be accessed immediately)

★ Turbo Attack Mode
• A new Turbo Attack mode has been added where you can race through levels at faster speed and compete for medals. Basically this is like...the 500cc version of DKCR? (If you've seen footage of this online- no, it's not sped up. That's literally how fast the game now moves in this mode.)

★ GameShare Support (on Switch 2)
• On Nintendo Switch 2, GameShare (Local User) lets two players play together using one copy of the game — great for couch play without needing a second purchase. (This seems cool, but as a single screen game, is this really necessary? Maybe for those who can't use the TV at the time?)

★ Switch 2-Specific Improvements
• Enhanced visuals — higher resolution and better image quality on Switch 2 displays.
• Shorter loading times — faster transitions and level loads on Switch 2.

🆓 Other Updates (Free Patch Content)

• Language support additions like Brazilian Portuguese.
• General fixes and polish improvements to gameplay experience.

That turbo attack mode looks wacky. They just sped the game logic up? Fun gimmick.

I saw someone say in response to this update that they hope Pikmin 4 gets a roguelike mode, and now that's all I want.

@Secret_Tunnel I’m still hoping Pikmin 4 might get some kind of Switch 2 Update, hopefully 60fps, which is why I still have it more or less in shrink wrap right now.

I’m surprised to see DKCR HD get this update though. Maybe they just have Panic Button on call? Or maybe PB had wanted to do these updates originally, but weren’t able to since the Switch 2 hadn’t released yet?

Also, I’ll say this, the death screen being faster is probably this game’s biggest update. And the loading screen? Where they run across the screen? The next scene usually loads before the Kongs even make it to the left side.

I played through the (")original(") DKCR on an emulator last year. I found that if I use keyboard controls I can play with only one hand, so I played the entire game singlehandedly.

Someone get me an award

What a weird update. Not gonna complain, though.
