September Retro Game Club IS BACK. Submissions Closed

You guys already know how this works. Submit a game from the Wii Virtual Console or 3DS Virtual Console, preferably with some info. Pics and videos are encouraged. You will have until the end of Monday Night 12am PST to submit a game. Voting will start on Tuesday Night and will end on Thursday Night. The game will be announced on Friday, August 31st. Then we can begin the Retro Game Club on Saturday, September 1st, 2012.

Here's a link to all Virtual Consoles games, to help you guys with your picks.

One submission per person. If you put more than one and do not decide which will be you official submission before the submission deadline, none of your submissions will count. No exceptions.

Here's what we have so far

NES
Super Mario Bros. 3

SNES
Kirby's Dream Course

Game Boy
Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters
Mole Mania
Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3

Genesis
Dynamite Headdy
Shinobi III

*If a game happens to be in another console, you can play it there too as long as the game is not too different and as long as it's also available in the Nintendo Virtual Console. Just mention it when we start playing. Example: Donkey Kong Country is available for the SNES and the GBA.

P.S.: If I'm missing any games mentioned let me know.

I'm going to have to go through my games to see if anything from my Backlog will work haha.

Edit: I'll say this to get it out of the way:

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3

I'm not sure if everyone played through it already on their 3DS, but I have some leftover cash on there and can maybe do this. I'm trying to just have a game on the console that I'm playing, and a game on the 3DS that I'm playing. I can probably finish up Mighty Switch Force in like 20 minutes, so that will be done soon. I also have Minis March again to finish, but that game is just relegated to "I guess I don't really have anything else to play" status.

Hopefully we get some participants next month...July was a bomb. Which sucks, because Monster World IV was pretty solid.

Dynamite Headdy (Genesis)

It's a platformer by Treasure that I've been submitting for like ever. Vote for it, if only to get me to stop!

Dynamite Headdy seconded.

Though I still have to finish Monster World.

That's my vote.

I would totally vote for Wario Land if I hadn't just played it. Hell, maybe I'll play it again anyway. How about Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters?

Mole Mania!! It's awesome, and three dollars.

Shinobi 3 has no chance against name recognition like Wario I'm afraid.

P.S. There needs to be some accountability if you say you're going to participate during the voting stage and then don't.

@Jargon

Like, what, your vote counts for less from then on?

For the record, I am playing Monster World 4 as I type this. I'm looking up a FAQ, lol.

This is where we need Negative World bucks, because then we could just fine people imaginary money.
08/26/12, 20:28
@PogueSquadron XP? BWA HA HA HA HA WE CAN TAKE AWAY XP!

Are you officially putting in Shinobi 3?

I just view it as an honor thing. I don't think there's any need for reprimand. But, I can put in the names of the people who vote yes from now on in the OP of the RGC thread once we officially start with the game so as to stimulate their participation. Only the Yes'es. No maybes or no's. Those two should have no "obligation."

Please do, Shinobi 3 is excellent and I'd much rather replay it than Wario Land.

I don't think I'll be participating in any future Retro Game Clubs for the time being. Real life has been getting in the way for me

I was under the impression that if we didn't vote for something, we probably wouldn't participate?

I thought the problem this last time was that people (not me) DID vote for Monster World IV, and hardly any of the people who voted for it did it. I personally think we should get rid of the "Maybe" vote. Either that, or make sure that it's way less weighted than a yes.
08/26/12, 22:10
I would submit Wario Land, if Pogue hadn't submitted it first.

Also, I would suggest Link's Awakening DX, but I don't think many people would like the idea, for it's one of the most played Game Boy games in NW.
I'll just wait for the time to vote.
08/26/12, 22:32
@HammerLord If you want to submit Link's Awakening, go right ahead. Just let me know if you want to put it in.

Yes=2 points
Yes. Played it before= 1 point
Maybe=1 point
No=0

The reason for Yes being worth 2 points is to give more weight to games you have never played before, in the spirit of trying something new. Yes. Played it Before and Maybe are worth 1 point because I didn't want the difference in categories to be to far apart, giving every game a fair chance.

I agree that Maybe should be removed altogether. Vote YES if you would definitely play the game and NO if you can't make that commitment. That way we choose the game that would get the maximum number of guaranteed participants. It's not like you're excluded if you vote NO but later decide to play once the game is chosen.

I also think PLAYED BEFORE should be used only as a tiebreaker.

Played it before must continue to be counted as usual, or we will never play old gems we've actually played before. But I understand your concern for the maybe option and therefore, I have put the decision in your hands:

Should we eliminate it or not?

If I remember right, that was sort of the point of the club. To play niche classics that most of us missed out on. If we want that to be the primary goal, PLAYED BEFORE and MAYBE votes should be left to tiebreakers, or at least weighted VERY low. But the waning participation in the club does seem to indicate that something about it isn't bringing people in.
