I voted too - although there were a lot of games I have yet to play so if I had not played them, I never mentioned them (with the exception of the most wanted of course)

Voted for Console GOTY and the Most Wanted categories. Don't feel qualified to answer the rest.

no Scratch Kitty and His Buddy On Rails for Wii U eShop most wanted? Haven't seen much of it, but that game looks pretty cool.

I didn't vote for any of the Wii U categories seeing as I didn't play any of those games.

No overall GOTY?

Voted for a few categories (Handheld GOTY, Console GOTY, Console Most Wanted). Would have voted Rayman and TW101 as my console runners-up if they were available.

Voted, but disappointed Streetpass Games were not on any list. They were the best thing I played in 2013.

I need to make a new NW rule, anyone who complains about what is and isn't on the list after it is up but didn't say a word about it in the thread I made asking for help figuring out the nominations that has been up for 3 weeks...

INSTA-BAN. FOREVER.

I'm not 100% on top of everything! I don't think of everything on my own. HENCE THE REASON FOR THAT THREAD!

*calms down*

Anyway. I think I got pretty much 99% of what should be on the lists. We'll be ok.

@deathly_hallows My logic in the past has always been that it's sort of pointless since we're a Nintendo site only and the same game that wins Nintendo console GOTY will inevitably win overall GOTY too, and looking back at past years I feel like it is safe to say that that is exactly how it would have played out, but this year with Zelda could have been different. Hmm. I think it is fine the way it is though.

Also on a side note, this is the first year since I've done these that I have to not vote for a lot of games that I know I probably would have voted for if I actually got around to playing them. Feels weird not voting for stuff like Pikmin 3 and Zelda Link Between Worlds but what can you do?

I did put off my actual vote in case I find time to get to those within the next week or so but... doubtful.

...And where's Hyper Light Drifter? That game looks awesome, but it's nowhere to be seen! Zero dropped the ball, what an awful guy who runs a terrible site. That dude obviously doesn't know anything about Nintendo games anymore, now that he's such a Steam nut.

@Zero
I think that's taking for granted that consoles are always more popular than handhelds, which isn't the case with Wii U and 3DS!

@deathly_hallows Not that consoles are more popular than handhelds, but that the biggest console games tend to be more popular than the biggest handheld games. Check out our past winners:

2012: Console - Xenoblade Chronicles, Handheld - Kid Icarus: Uprising
2011: Console - Zelda Skyward Sword, Handheld - Super Mario 3D Land
2010: Console - Super Mario Galaxy 2, Handheld - Dragon Quest IX
2009: Console - New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Handheld - Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
2008: Console - Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Handheld - Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Which of those handheld games would have really stood a chance? I can't say for sure, but I suspect the console games would have taken it 5 years straight.

The other thing that was fueling the decision to keep them separate is that a lot of people simply don't own both platforms. Especially right now with the Wii U still being relatively new and many still holding off on it, I'd bet that we have like twice as many 3DS owners as Wii U owners here. And since our GOTY voting is basically a popular vote, that gives an unfair advantage to games on the platforms that people own most (a huge issue with the way a lot of multiconsole sites do their GOTY stuff too, but they tend to not do user voting either.) Not everyone has played every game up there of course, but if they own the platform for any given category they at least had access to every game in it.

Of course, that was an issue when we combined "consoles" and "handhelds" last year, for instance a lot of people had the Wii but did not have the Wii U yet. Something that I thought about when combining, and it might have helped give Xenoblade Chronicles a bit of a boost. Tough to completely avoid these issues, but I think there are enough distinct console and handheld gamers on this site that smashing them together in voting would lead to an end result highly skewed by the platforms people actually own and / or have access to.

Yeah, I have a pretty big feeling that Zelda would win overall GOTY this year, if there was a GOTY.

For another example of "platform bias" towards console games, look at how many people have rated our top Wii games versus our top DS games. We have a lot of Wii games with upwards of 100 ratings, while no DS game on the list has even half as many ratings. I've never been able to figure this out because I know tons of people here have handhelds, but yeah... numbahs. And the Wii games score a bit higher in general too. There are 9 Wii games at 9.2 or higher and only 4 DS games... 1 of them being a console port, and 2 of them being the same Pokemon game (with the last one being another Pokemon game...)

But yeah, Zelda probably had a pretty good shot this year.
