BREAKING NEWS. DRAGON QUEST X ON WII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELLZ YEAH!

CONFIRMED

DAMN this is HUGE, Dragon Quest sells like a billion copies over there. VIII on PS2 was one of my favorite RPGs of the generation, so if X is as good I'm definitely in line.

Also it seems like Dragon Quest IX (DS) is releasing in Japan in March. I'm still pretty excited for that, though it kind of sounds like they changed things up a bit there so I'm not quite as sure about it. Not to mention the X announcement sort of... overshadows IX?

Anyway things are really picking up on the RPG front it seems. First Monster Hunter (which in case you saw the rumours, Capcom has now posted on their page that it is indeed still Wii exclusive,) then the "real" Tales team working on the Wii announcement at the Nintendo Fall Conference (this happened right? or did I imagine it?) and now Dragon Quest! ... Mizuguchi working on Wii music game
Mizuguchi, the man behind Rez and Lumines, has announced that he is working on a music game for the Wii. Right now, the only thing we know about the project is that it’s called ‘QJ’. Mizuguchi hopes that this game will bring us a new way to play music titles, thanks to the Wiimote. I am so happy to see the Wii getting another music game that isn’t in the long line of Guitar Hero and Rock Band clones. ... Read More!
** A -How To- Guide on Hacking & Running Homebrew on the Wii. ** - Now with New v4.0 Info at the bottom -

Since this can all be very confusing, we’ll start by getting the Homebrew Channel on your Wii first. Once we get that on your system. Adding applications will make more sense later on.

There really is no worry here but there is always a 1 in 1million chance of something going wrong. Just follow the directions and you should be fine. But first I would just like to get the disclaimer off my chest anyway to protect my own ass.

DISCLAIMER: NEGATIVEWORLD & MYSELF ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR Wii.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Okay, here we go…

What You Will Need

- A Nintendo Wii of course (chip or non-chipped, it doesn't matter)
- An SD Card formatted for FAT16 (You cannot use an SDHC for this initial setup)
- A copy of The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii version not GameCube)
- Computer with an SD Card Reader
- Software that can extract .rar/.zip/.tar/.gz…like WinRAR

Why Are We Doing This?

What we will be doing is taking advantage of a security flaw discovered in TLoZ: TP. This ... Read More!

Where is the 3rd party support? Ten lesser known developers every Nintendo fan should be paying attention to

The Nintendo Wii is an interesting phenomenon. Coming off of the disappointing sales of the Gamecube, 3rd party publishers and developers were a bit wary to jump into the next Nintendo home console right away, especially after Nintendo announced that the Wii would come with a (very) non-standard controller and a decided lack of hardware power next to its competition. Yet the Wii took the industry by surprise and soared in the marketplace, quickly becoming not just the best selling home console of the generation, but setting itself on a pace to, perhaps, become the best selling home console of all time. We are approaching the two year anniversary of the console and it is still difficult to simply walk into a store and buy a Wii; they sell out almost as fast as they come in. Surely 3rd party support has followed?

Well… yes and no. Though we are seeing more and more 3rd party support for the machine day to day, there is still a stigma surrounding it. The consensus seems to be sure, ... Read More!

Top 10 Classic Mega Man (Un?)Intentionally Dirty Evil Robot Bosses

With today’s release of Mega Man 9 on WiiWare, I felt that it was a perfect time to take a look back at the classic games that made the Mega Man franchise what it is. There are many reasons the series grew in popularity, from the excellent controls and gameplay to the awesome style and graphics to the stunning soundtracks which, to this date, still stand as some of the best in the entire game industry. Who could forget this gem?

On a more negative side, Mega Man is also probably one of the most famous examples of running a franchise into the ground, with countless rehashed sequels and spinoffs and sequels to spinoffs.

But in the end, Mega Man is mostly known for the evil boss robots. You fight them, you defeat them, and then you gain their powers. It’s kind of like ancient tribal warfare, except you don’t have to eat their still beating hearts. How cool is that?

And yet some powers are probably better left untaken. And some powers are just… wrong.

For the sake of this list I’m ... Read More!
Nintendo: slacking as a publisher? An in-depth look

It has come to my attention that many forum users in this crazy post-E3 2008 world have taken on a rather negative view of the future of Nintendo game publishing on the Wii. Not here on the Negative World mind you (ironic?) but elsewhere on this vast thing called the Internet. Apparently it can simply be assumed as word of law that Nintendo has completely and utterly abandoned the... shudders... "core" gamers to focus solely on the new market, and we should never expect another AAA core game from Nintendo again. But not content with this overly bleak future outlook, some are trying to destroy the past as well. It’s not just this E3 that Nintendo turned on us, it has been this way from the very start of the Wii! A small handful of decent Nintendo published titles interspersed with a large amount of casual garbage, while the other two console manufacturers are putting out AAA title after AAA title.

Seemed a bit dubious to me, considering the amount of big titles Nintendo has ... Read More!
Mikami, Suda51, and EA announce new action horror title for Wii (and PC, Xbox 360, PS3)

I'm a bit hesitant about the multiplatform status... has there yet to be a 360/PS3/Wii action/adventure game where the Wii version didn't end up a bit gimped? But hey, at least Suda is still showing Nintendo the love. And Mikami involved as well, seems like the perfect team up. But erm... EA? Who would have thunk it? Then again with Mirror's Edge and Dead Space coming from EA it looks like they might finally be making real games. It also seems like Q Entertainment is involved in some form, what is with all these big team ups lately?!
