With the Wii U kicking off the next generation of gaming I thought it would be fun to do this. The games don’t have to be in a specific order, mine aren’t, but it would be nice if you provide some justification as to why you’re picking the games you’re picking... (more)

Whatever stage of life you are currently in right now, chances are a Nintendo System has been around to entertain you through the ups and downs. As the Wii U approaches, I wonder what will happen to me and my family during its current generation lifecycle... (more)

I was thinking about this after listening to the RFN telethon segment about Metroid Prime. I think Metroid Prime is one of those rare games where not only is the level design impeccable (that is, individual rooms and smaller areas are smartly designed), but the world design is also very notable (that is, how each individual area works together to create a larger game world). While the world does not have that "beehive" mentality to the point that Super Metroid did, there are at least areas in the game where elevators provide access from one area to another, easily allowing the player to jump from area to area. (Something like Other M, on the other hand, seemed to more blatantly isolate its areas, with one central hub that connected them). When you find a particular area in Tallon Overworld that gives you a backdoor of sorts to other areas, it's kind of a revelation, and that's the kind of stuff that really gets me going in those kinds of games... Generally, I've given up on game reviews. A lot of them seem biased, pushing a specific angle. And who knows how many are bought off forthe reviews of "AAA" games. I'm much more interested in fellow gamer impressions than some PR-esque review babble... (more)

I was listening to Radio Free Nintendo and Guillaume and friends were discussing how hype for the Wii U has slowed due to tablets becoming more ubiquitous and the Gamepad looking less impressive compared to the newer models. This got me thinking about how Nintendo was going to be tied to this controller for the next 7 years despite technology improving... (more)

Most of you should know what I mean, but the essence of Chicago-style multiplayer gaming, to me, is just simply this: Live to Grief. The converse wouldn't even hold, because even dying is but a small price to pay for a good rage-inducing grief. So share your stories of multiplayer assholery! Share them, I say. For only a Chicago-style gamer can truly understand (or perhaps even tolerate) another Chicago-style gamer... (more)

Ok people... The Wii is almost over - In another month, it will be replaced (but not forgotten) by it's new counterpart. As you look at your Wii collection, imagine that all your games just went up in smoke... (not a nice thought I know) - what ones would you miss the most? What do you think are the most important (not necessarily the overall best) Wii games in your collection?.. (more)

I'm trying to be strong, but Newegg is a foul temptress, with its $12 off all pre-orders (code: EMCJNJD242)!.. (more)

I was thinking about this the other day. Some of the fears that I had about the DS -> 3DS transition have kind of been borne out. The games are more traditional, with less touch-screen focus and much less dual-screen play (which it seems that people besides me generally hated, anyway), due to design conflicts with 3D. (Am I the only person who was looking forward to big, expansive, dual-screen levels in NSMB 2? It was barely even 3D!) (more)

Inspired by Anand's 'choose your top 5' roundtable, I am curious to find out your opinion on another topic dear to my heart: what are your top 5 non-Square Enix RPGs on Nintendo systems? I decided to make it non-Square Enix to avoid the Chrono Triggers, Final Fantasies, and Dragon Quests that will surely pop up on many lists... (more)

I know we have a lot of current FPS haterz around here (I might even include myself in that category), so I have a question for these folks: Supposing that the Wii U actually GETS the big FPS games that are coming to the other consoles, will Pointer/Gamepad controls make you any more likely to give them a shot?..
