After doing the secret santa in Negative World, I was left with 1000 points to spend on the Wii Shop Channel. I really wasn't sure what I was going to spend it on until someone mentioned this game. To be honest, I completely forgot that it released last year. I remember briefly seeing a trailer for it and it was definitely something I would want to play. Unfortunately... I went in expecting a 2D Endless Ocean experience, but instead got a so-so collectathon... (more)

Flingsmash is developed by Artoon and bundled with the Wii Remote Plus controller. I will be reviewing this game as if it were a 10-dollar disc game, because that is its inherent value... (more)

Umihara Kawase is a name not many are familiar with. The series has a small cult following amongst import gamers, but beyond that there's little discussion to be found regarding it. If you are unfamiliar with this series, allow me to introduce you; Umihara Kawase is a series of (currently two) platforming games for the Super Famicom (Super NES outside of Japan) and Playstation systems. The game's main mechanic is the stretchy, bouncy grappling hook the main character (a cute schoolgirl also named Umihara Kawase;the name is based on a Japanese saying) uses... (more)

Trauma Team is the third Wii game in Atlus' "Trauma" series, and was released in NA in May 2010. The main difference in this game, is that you not only play as a surgeon, but you also assume the role of first response, orthopedics, diagnostician, endoscopist, and forensics. These 6 doctors make up the trauma team, and you follow them along their intertwining storylines... (more)

Herein we have the first Sonic game that is universally liked by all critics since... well, Sonic 4. But before that, since Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast. And, while I think reviewers are going a little too far, they're not off, either. Far from it. Indeed, a lot of what you heard in those reviews is completely accurate, so much so that my review may be a bit redundant. But reviewing this game is a necessity for me. The life-long, if a bit diminished nowadays Sonic fan in me has to speak... (more)

People complain about shoehorned motion controls or games that do not use motion controls at all, therefore not “justifying” their existence on the Wii. Personally, I find it much more offensive when a developer doesn’t leverage the controller’s capabilities when they would obviously have been an improvement over what was settled on. There is a surprising number of games out there that have made me think “Are you kidding me!?” when they have me tilting an object using buttons. Thankfully, developer Broken Rules has not adopted the lazy approach when porting their game And Yet It Moves, a game all about twisting and turning the world around your character, from the PC to the Wii... Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa was never officially released outside of Japan, but North American gamers may still be familiar with it under another name: Baby Mario. Indeed, the game made its way on our side of the Pacific as a bootleg. Strange that with all of the games that crib from Super Mario Bros.’s mechanics, this game would be disguised as a Mario game, as its gameplay is quite unique and completely unlike SMB. Then again, the people who played Baby Mario back in the day probably didn’t find it so strange; they were used to sequels like Super Mario Bros. 2... (more)

X-Scape came out a few months ago now from developer Q-Games, headed by Dylan Cuthbert, one of the people behind the original StarFox on the SNES. It is a little strange to me how relatively under the radar this release has been because, and I’m a bit afraid of the expectations I am setting here, it is in a way the StarFox sequel many have been waiting for...
