With a new Mario game arriving soon (Super Mario 3D World for Wii U), I couldn't help but think back on all of Mario's different special moves and abilities. More specifically, Mario has many different ways to soar through the sky and stay there for a period of time before touching foot on solid ground. I decided to pick out some of my favorite methods Mario has used to conquer the air; I broadened the definition of 'flight moves' to allow for more then just the standard power-ups, though I did intend to stay within the regular Mario platformer series. Let's take a look at what ended up on my list: (more)

The recent release of Super Metroid on the Wii U Virtual Console is a great reminder of how incredible the music for the Metroid games has been across the entire series. As many of you know, I am passionate about my gaming music and listen to it even when I'm not playing a game, and I admit I've even purchased a couple of official soundtracks here and there over the years. This list is completely my personal selection of favorite Metroid music tracks... (more)

With the recent release of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate for 3DS earlier this year, I figure now is a good time as any to see where the entire Castlevania series stands according to the ratings given by the Negative World community! Over the years, Konami has created true classics spanning many of Nintendo's systems, but which Castlevania games are considered the best? Of course, since our game database only includes games on Nintendo systems (this is a Nintendo site after all), this list will not include Castlevania games from other platforms... (more)

Most gamers today look fondly back at the period from 1989 to the mid-90s as a golden age for SEGA, with Genesis hardware and software sales simply trouncing Nintendo's 16-bit console, the Super Nintendo (what an original name, huh guys?). The reasons for such a clear and decisive victory are multifaceted, so join me, fellow Segative World readers, as we examine some of the clever tactics and downright genius innovations SEGA utilized to ensure the Genesis would cement its place as one of the greatest consoles. Of. All. Time... (more)

Nintendo fans are celebrating Kirby's 20th anniversary this year, and Nintendo marked the occasion with the release of the excellent compilation, Kirby's Dream Collection: Special Edition, for the Wii. Just recently I was finally able to finish playing some Kirby games that I hadn't played before, and I was very curious to see how the Kirby games rank based on Negative World members' ratings. Yes, your ratings make the difference!.. (more)

Xenoblade (Wii) is one of the best RPGs I have played and completed on any video game system, in no small part due its impressive soundtrack. After finishing the game, I sought out and became the proud owner of the official soundtrack CD (Japan), which spans four CDs with a total of 91 tracks!.. (more)

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Game Boy, 1993) (and the DX version, Game Boy Color, 1998), like any good Zelda game, holds a special place in Nintendo fans' hearts. The game paved the way for future Zelda games by featuring a deep and unique storyline that in many ways, exceeded the standards set by its predecessor, A Link to the Past. As such, the game has its great moments... (more)

Yoshi's abilities were never quite as versatile as Kirby, but with the addition of Super Mario Galaxy 2 to the Mario library, his list of special moves and power-ups continues to grow. Yoshi's repertoire has increased substantially since his Super Mario World debut, and while his long, sticky tongue, combined with egg-making and egg-throwing, is still his most useful and prominent fighting mechanism, it is also a means to facilitate his ability to acquire the moves listed below. In most cases, these special abilities only last for a limited time, so you have to enjoy the fun while it lasts (though you can repeat quite often)... (more)

I picked these 10 bosses from Nintendo's games based on the fact that I could recall most of them from the Nintendo games I have played, and tried to rank them somehow based on my favorites as well as being memorable experiences. It just comes to show that Nintendo has a strange obsession using floating hands as enemy/ boss encounters in many of their games... (more)
