REDMOND, Wash., Dec. 18, 2013 – One of Nintendo's popular characters from the recently released Super Mario 3D World game is coming to two of its biggest titles of 2014 for Wii U. Rosalina will be playable in both Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8. Nintendo also launched NES Remix in the Nintendo eShop on Wii U, re-imagining parts of 16 classic NES games. A new game for Wii U developed by Tecmo-Koei that will feature the action-packed Warriors series set in the world of The Legend of Zelda was also revealed for launch in 2014. This is a separate project from the new installment of The Legend of Zelda series that is in development for Wii U by longtime series producer Eiji Aonuma and his team. Nintendo made these announcements and revealed new information about a number of Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games during a Nintendo Direct announcement. Nintendo has released System Software version 7.0 for Nintendo 3DS, which includes Miiverse support in addition to several other features. Notably, the system update allows users to link a Nintendo Network ID they've already established on Wii U, or create a new Nintendo Network ID. This functionality allows players with Wii U and 3DS to share a common wallet across the eShop on both systems... (more)

Nintendo has announced a National StreetPass Weekend for December 14 and 15 in North America. For two days, all Nintendo Zones throughout Canada and the United States will communicate with each other (!), mixing up the StreetPasses they receive and redistributing them to other Nintendo Zones. This means players can receive passes from all over the continent, filling in their map and logging more players than would be possible otherwise... (more)

With a new Mario game arriving soon (Super Mario 3D World for Wii U), I couldn't help but think back on all of Mario's different special moves and abilities. More specifically, Mario has many different ways to soar through the sky and stay there for a period of time before touching foot on solid ground. I decided to pick out some of my favorite methods Mario has used to conquer the air; I broadened the definition of 'flight moves' to allow for more then just the standard power-ups, though I did intend to stay within the regular Mario platformer series. Let's take a look at what ended up on my list: (more)

I love Miiverse. I think Nintendo really nailed it when they included this online community feature on day 1 of Wii U's launch. I regularly post on Miiverse and have really come to appreciate the recent addition of tags to post stuff like impressions, questions for other users, brag about your accomplishments, and more! (There can even be game-specific tags like Pikmin 3's creature photography). The fact you can easily attach screenshots is pretty awesome, and it's easier than ever to post since you can use a USB keyboard on the Wii U or access the web browser version on your computer. I've also been able to interact directly with game developers themselves! In short, I've found Miiverse truly has enhanced my game playing experience... (more)

I never really played Need for Speed games before, but I did have fun with Burnout on the GameCube. Criterion knows how to make a good racing game, and even though this game is a port, it absolutely shines in the Wii U library! The game is very beautiful (as it should; it uses high-end PC textures not seen on PS3 or Xbox). Third parties should take note of how a port should be handled on this next gen console... (more)

I finally started playing this game recently. It's a good game! I'm not a big FPS fan by any means, but I've enjoyed some in the past (probably most recently are COD: World at War and Goldeneye, both for Wii)... (more)

BELLEVUE, WA—September 4, 2013—In a surprising twist announced this morning during a special Nintendo Direct presentation, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y players do not receive Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie from Professor Sycamore but are in fact given the choice of a classic partner Pokémon—Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle—from the very first Pokémon games, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue! Adding to the excitement, once a player has evolved this Pokémon into Venusaur, Charizard, or Blastoise and obtained its unique Mega Stone, the Pokémon will be able to Mega Evolve while in battle. Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard, and Mega Blastoise will possess overwhelming powers never before seen in a Pokémon game. Players can choose fan favorite Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle when Pokémon X and Pokémon Y launch worldwide October 12, 2013, for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems... (more)

REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 7, 2013 – Animal Crossing fans are getting a new place on Wii U where they can talk about their towns and share images with players from all over the world.
