Hearing about Jam With the Band coming to Europe kind of sparked a thought in my mind. Or maybe I've been thinking about it for a long time, and the news caused it to surface. In the business world, an executive will rarely lose his job for making a safe decision. Even if that safe decision gets the company in trouble, it's the same safe decision that others are making/would make, and everyone at the company was on board the safety train. In the corporate structure of America (and probably elsewhere, too), risk is to be avoided at all costs (don't worry, though - you've always got that golden parachute to float over to another corporate position with)... DSiWare and WiiWare are often maligned, but the disturbingly well-kept secret is that they actually have quite a few good games. It's just that most gamers are unaware of their existence, and the media (and Nintendo, to be fair) does little to educate consumers... (more) |

I shall endeavor to keep this brief, since there is not much to say about this product. It is a fairly robust (and cute!) digital instrument tuner,and it costs $2. I think it's a very worthy little app for... fans of the digital tuner genre. Very cheap, functional, and practical... (more)

After the success of the original Gameboy Advance version and Touched on the DS, Nintendo is back again with the third original WarioWare game to date. But rather than simply rehash the ideas in the original, Nintendo has gone a different route; the game pack comes with a motion sensor built right into it, and most of the mini-games revolve around usage of this. The big draw of the WarioWare series for me has always been the initial discovery of each microgame. I never have as much fun “perfecting” a single microgame, or trying to get a new high score in a given set of microgames, as I have seeing a completely new challenge thrown at me for the first time, with its unique artwork and style often completely different from the previous microgame or the next... Not in a horror movie way, but in a drarma way. (Well, you can list games that have any kind of emotional effect, but I'm more interested in games that can actually touch your heart in some way.) I'm actually the sappiest, easiest target for human drama in almost any form. Any form except games, that is. They leave my perennially moistened eyes absolutely dry. I don't know if it's the form or the execution, but, yeah. They just don't do it for me. Let me try to think of some exceptions... Super Metroid, I guess. I don't know if was emotional, but Drakengard and Shadow of Destiny kind of resonated with me, somehow. The end of Conker was bizarrely moving, in a totally unearned way... (more)
