I've never made much of a splash over here at Negative World, but some of you guys may remember me from my days in the IGN Wii Lobby many years ago. Back then, I developed a bit of a reputation as a fan of the original Kid Icarus game. Without going too much into detail, back when I was growing up, Kid Icarus was for me what The Legend of Zelda was for a lot of the rest of you. I'm one of those rare guys who actually put a lot of time into the original game and I've been waiting patiently for a sequel for a very long time. Even started work on my own, if you can believe it... (more)

Ninja Gaiden. What can I say about Ninja Gaiden on the NES? The original NG in the arcades (also available on the Virtual Console) was a beat-em-up in the same vein as Final Fight, in which you played as Ryu Hayabusa, a ninja with an arsenal of three different moves and who could only use his sword for a limited time after grabbing a power-up. Awesome, right?.. (more)

Courtesy of GelatinousEncore, it's a thread for the superficial! With the Wii's time on this planet becoming more and more limited, it's both fun and interesting to look back at how it handled some of its key aspects. Ever since the system was announced, we knew it was gonna have sub-par graphics compared to its competitors, and we wondered if it would have any games that would look truly "next gen", or at least distinctively better than Gamecube. There haven't been nearly as many of those as I would've wanted; developers have been lazy, but there are a few games that are a pleasure to look at... (more)

This thread was originally about PSN being hacked in 2011, but we thought it fitting to make it a general "Oh Sony" thread to contain rants or news about Sony's war on hackers (and hackers' war on Sony)... (more)

Back in the days when it was considered necessary for a console to be represented by a mascot to be successful, NEC chose Bonk to represent the TurboGrafx-16. The console having never gained much traction outside of Japan, the little caveman with a huge head eventually made his way on other platforms. Can you guess which console Super Bonk was for?.. It is only now that Hudson Soft is no more than I bother to pay attention to their games. A shame. But just like most gamers living outside of Japan, I have a good excuse: most of Hudson Soft's best games were only available on the TurboGrafx-16, a console that simply never really took off the way its rivals, the Nintendo's SNES and Sega's Genesis, did. Now, a selection of the TurboGrafx-16's library is available on Virtual Console to let Nintendo fans know what they missed out on nearly 20 years ago... (more)

In my Wonder Boy review, I claimed that Wonder Boy and Adventure Island are "the exact same game". I said that because I had read that the level design and the mechanics in both games were identical, and simply assumed that Adventure Island was Wonder Boy with an NES skin. In some ways, I was right, but in the way that matters most, I was dead, dead wrong... (more)

Ridge Racer 3D is a good launch game. With a little more polish, it could've been a great launch game, but there's always the next system, I guess... (more)
