Retro Game Club Discussion Thread 19: Zelda Oracle of Ages & Oracle of Seasons [community]

The lands of Labrynna and Holodrum cry out for a saviour.
The forces of evil are gaining power.
The Triforce summons you.

As Link, take up your sword once more to determine the fate of two worlds, in the Game Boy Colour classics. Wield the powers of the Oracles to traverse time and control the seasons. And link your quests to reveal the hidden truth in an epic meta-adventure that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Primary Discussion Begins on page 3!

I'm up to the boss of Mermaid Dungeon at the moment. Still have to do seasons as well.

I have never had problems with Jabu Jabu OR the Water Temple. Always found them fun.

Oh man. That last Dungeon (Ages) was a dream compared to the previous one. It was bigger, yes, but it had such a good flow to it - and best of all NO BACKTRACKING.

Just gotta take out a couple of witches and the World is gonna be a-ok.

@Pokefreak911 I still have Seasons to do as well but it might have to wait a while. #Backlaugust

@Super_Conzo
I've finished Seasons already so if I picked it for Backlaugust people would whine.

It's hilarious,.. I used to think I loved Seasons more. Growing up. Then playing these two I thought I changed positions and loved Ages more. Now that I've beaten Ages, I remember why I love Seasons more. So Seasons it is. Now to beat the linked game special ending portion and be a Hero of Courage!

And now I've beaten the bonus content gained by connecting both. FINALLY!

I don't know if this has been covered in this thread yet, but I'm a bit stumped at the end of the 6th dungeon in Ages (the one where you get the mermaid thingy that lets you swim in dark waters.)

I've been to every single room except one or two right by the boss, and have every treasure in the dungeon (well, both dungeons, since you go back and forth in time) except one. I have the boss key. However, there is one more (not boss) locked door I have to get past. I'm assuming the key is in the single treasure that I don't have, and once I get it, I should be done collecting stuff in this dungeon since I'm only a door or two away from the boss.

The room in question is underwater. There is a space for the treasure to appear once I solve the puzzle, and 6 of those diamond thingys that you can switch places with using the hookshot thingy. But the hookshot thingy doesn't work underwater. In fact, nothing appears to work underwater besides my sword. I've tried pushing and stabbing the diamond thingys, which does nothing, and I don't seem to be able to do anything else.

I don't want the answer, I just want to know... can I do what I need to do in that room right now? Or is there something else that needs to be done first? (Like say, draining the water somewhere else or something?)

Nevermind, Shadowlink pointed out that you can't use the b button for items underwater. I must have been trying my sword with a and that worked, switching other stuff out to b and it doesn't work, and just assuming nothing but the sword worked underwater...

The hookshot works underwater, you need to equip it to the A button (or is it B?) since one of the buttons gets defaulted to surfacing/diving. There are a couple other items that work underwater. For the last key in that dungeon I think once I changed the water levels with the third switch, it was accessible.

Necro-bump, but I finally beat Oracle of Ages and saw the linked ending. Woohoo!

@ludist210

Congratulations!

You know it would be pretty cool if Nintendo did something like this again, two new linked games.

@Shadowlink

They did. Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age had that functionality, but it was more carry-over than altering parts of a particular game. I'm glad I had a link cable to transfer that stuff though...huge pain otherwise.

@ludist210

...I kinda meant now . With Zelda .

You're technically correct though, but I've already played Golden Sun.

I actually bought Golden Sun 2 to play on my shiny new GBA SP. Cue half an hour of painfully transcribing characters from my scribbled sheet of paper, only to fuck it up. I started again and copied the code to my PC so I didn't get stimied by my bad handwriting again (1 instead of I, etc)

Wonder if the VC versions will allow you to link between games or if we're going to have to password that shit again.

Actually I wonder if we will get the The Lost Age on VC. I'm not going to bother with the first one unless the second is there too.
