Animal Crossing... I still remember getting up early before heading to my high school classes just to see what Tom Nook was selling that day. This game series has always held such a dear place in my heart. I think it has to do with the fact that heading to the land of Plaisant, Tranquil, or other towns of mine always being a great escape for me. Making Bells, filling my catalog, and fishing in the ocean were always points of peace for me. While I've been very public about my discontent with AC: City Folk, I have a new-found hope once more for New Leaf. From all the information that has been dished out due to the game's release already in Japan, and Nintendo pushing more information through Nintendo Directs, I am confident this game will be a fresh take on a classic and comforting idea.
The game released in North America on June 9th, 2013 and released in other territories shortly after.
Please use this thread for all discussion on the game. If you would like to make trades or visit towns, please use the specific Animal Crossing New Leaf Trading Thread for further assistance. It makes more sense to keep this focused on the gameplay and game discussion while leaving bartering out of it. There are no Friend Codes this time around for Animal Crossing, which is a blessing! Many of us have already befriended ourselves via the 3DS Friend Codes Thread thread. That thread will be where we continue to befriend each other and trade 3DS IDs for the sake of visiting each other's towns.
Many many years ago I discovered a wonderful Animal Crossing website which has a great catalog feature set up. Now, the new game will mean it'll take time for the site to get a full correct catalog up and running but I expect it to work beautifully once more to allow anyone to track their catalog there. You can find this website at the Animal Crossing Community page. They also have forums there which are very active right now in anticipation of this game. Granted, the general age of the members of that site fall a bit lower than here, but I've found over all the years I've been there that the discussion is still mostly pleasant and easy.
Lastly, I want you all to enjoy the music from this new game or any of the games, whenever you want. The following site will allow you to hear the "Xam" or "Xpm" music that would naturally occur in your life right now as if you were in the game. You can select from any of the Animal Crossing games and the music will continually loop until the hour changes. It's pretty cool. You can find that page here. It's by default at the City Folk music.
So again, everyone enjoy this game! Enjoy this discussion! If you're interested in being negative about the title, just find your way to a different thread for that because this thread is about the experience and meant to bring the community together during the launch of one of the most community driven games Nintendo offers.
Say hello to Kapp'n, cause we're about to make it into town on June 9th.
(One more quick note; Keep an eye out for the game's review, which I will write sometime in the end of June probably.)
Pattern Creator - Turns any photo on your computer into a pattern (results may vary)
All good, I didn't realize they were two different fish...I caught the Puffer Fish a long time ago (probably on the island) so I just assumed they were the same. Well, good to know I'm caught up. Sad that I can't catch the Loach until March...but it'll keep me playing I suppose.
Yay! Passed my 4th Gracie test. Maybe now Redd will come back. Haven't seen him in ages.
(How the heck are you supposed to fill the art collection in the museum in a timely fashion anyway? Redd only comes like once a week at best. Is there another way of getting pics beyond raiding other people's towns?)
Time to start cleaning up my town too, I had all of the potential Gracie outfits littering the ground like Fink did. Finally I can sell this stuff off.
Mop, did you want my leftover candy? That's littering the place up too and I need to get rid of it to get my perfect town status back. Let me know.
Do you get doubles from Redd? Or does he keep offering you new pieces?
Because if doubles start to appear before you finish the collection, that would just make the process even more ridiculous. Imagine being down to your last few and having to wait and hope each week that a new painting would be available. Ugh.
So yeah, if you got any spares that I don't have, be happy to take them off your hands
With a ridiculous amount of time and patience. I can confirm the method works though. You need:
An orange rose (red x yellow) A purple rose (usually white x white)
Breed the orange rose together with the purple rose, until you get a red rose. Best place to do this is apparently on a spare patch of beach somewhere- No other flowers will spawn there randomly, nor will annoying villagers plant stuff there. Thus any red roses that appear are guaranteed to have come from the orange/purple combo. The reason why you want to make sure of this is because the red rose that the orange/purple spawns is a 'special' red rose that has the potential to breed with another special red to create roses in *any* colour- Including the ever elusive blue. Unfortunately it is indistinguishable from normal reds. So you gotta keep track of when you breed these 'special' reds.
Once you have two special red roses, breed them together just like the orange/purple above. You can obviously grow more 'special' reds, but make sure you keep track of exactly where they are and remove any unwanted hybrids that spawn- That includes any *new* red roses. Those roses will be ordinary red roses and muck up your specials if you get them confused.
Water every day, use fertilizer, and put Beautiful Town ordinance on to maximize your hybrid chances. Then one day if you get *really* lucky, you'll have grown a blue rose. Then once you've got two, you can breed them together directly which is *much* easier. I'm trying for my second one now.
Other tips include tidying up the current flowers in your town so they can't spawn hybrids on their own- It maximizes the chances of hybrids appearing from the pair you are trying to breed, instead of random hybrids from other flowers. Put down patterns or other objects to block spawn spots for other flowers.
Did anyone else get to experience Thanksgiving in the game? It was a bit tough to nab some of the correct diving objects or fish since I didn't prepare early, but still, it was nice overall. I managed to nab my fruit basket and my cornucopia.
