Animal Crossing: New Leaf Review (Nintendo 3DS) (9.7)  by

Animal Crossing... I still remember getting up early before heading to my high school classes just to see what Tom Nook was selling that day. This game series has always held such a dear place in my heart. I think it has to do with the fact that heading to the land of Plaisant, Tranquil, or other towns of mine always being a great escape for me. Making Bells, filling my catalog, and fishing in the ocean were always points of peace for me. While I've been very public about my discontent with AC: City Folk, I have a new-found hope once more for New Leaf. From all the information that has been dished out due to the game's release already in Japan, and Nintendo pushing more information through Nintendo Directs, I am confident this game will be a fresh take on a classic and comforting idea.

The game released in North America on June 9th, 2013 and released in other territories shortly after.

Please use this thread for all discussion on the game. If you would like to make trades or visit towns, please use the specific Animal Crossing New Leaf Trading Thread for further assistance. It makes more sense to keep this focused on the gameplay and game discussion while leaving bartering out of it. There are no Friend Codes this time around for Animal Crossing, which is a blessing! Many of us have already befriended ourselves via the 3DS Friend Codes Thread thread. That thread will be where we continue to befriend each other and trade 3DS IDs for the sake of visiting each other's towns.

Many many years ago I discovered a wonderful Animal Crossing website which has a great catalog feature set up. Now, the new game will mean it'll take time for the site to get a full correct catalog up and running but I expect it to work beautifully once more to allow anyone to track their catalog there. You can find this website at the Animal Crossing Community page. They also have forums there which are very active right now in anticipation of this game. Granted, the general age of the members of that site fall a bit lower than here, but I've found over all the years I've been there that the discussion is still mostly pleasant and easy.

Lastly, I want you all to enjoy the music from this new game or any of the games, whenever you want. The following site will allow you to hear the "Xam" or "Xpm" music that would naturally occur in your life right now as if you were in the game. You can select from any of the Animal Crossing games and the music will continually loop until the hour changes. It's pretty cool. You can find that page here. It's by default at the City Folk music.

So again, everyone enjoy this game! Enjoy this discussion! If you're interested in being negative about the title, just find your way to a different thread for that because this thread is about the experience and meant to bring the community together during the launch of one of the most community driven games Nintendo offers.

Say hello to Kapp'n, cause we're about to make it into town on June 9th.

(One more quick note; Keep an eye out for the game's review, which I will write sometime in the end of June probably.)

This is great! But I'm a little concerned that I haven't gotten a Char yet, so I'll keep my eye on the waterfall.

Gotta keep that owl happy...

I haven't seen a char yet either. I wonder what *under* waterfall means? Near the waterfall? In the waterfall? Hmm...

I managed to get a char a while back... but accidentally sold it. :( Haven't seen it again. When I saw it, it was literally in the waterfall, could only see the tail shadow going in and out. This was at the lower waterfall (ocean level).

In ACCF I remember a rumor about stalk market being highest on Thursdays, but I don't know if it is true.
Last week I bought at 90, and sold at 117. Then the next day was at 432!! I think it was a Thursday.... I never could get the hang of Thursdays...

Char get!

Created some stumps too. Violin Beetle tomorrow.

Haven't gotten a Char yet, but I did accidentally sell a Horned Hercules (and have yet to see it again). It's all good though...it's an island bug, so I should find it again eventually.

EDIT: Correction, I just caught a Char. I just dropped my fishing pole in the river, let it drift off the edge of the waterfall, and a fish bit (couldn't see it). Pulled it up, and Char! It's raining too...so that's nice. Now I just need to catch a Snail and Violin Beetle and I think I'm set for the month.

Blathers also just asked me to fund the museum expansion.

@Shadowlink

Nabbed my violin beetle this morning around 6:45 am.

@ludist210

No char for me either yet, but I haven't tried. I nabbed a bunch of those beetles with an island trip in the evening. Shouldn't take you more than 30 min.

I only seem to be missing the rainbow trout which I doubt is that hard to get. Already had the char!

Also it seems Reggie's house is being delivered via SpotPass to the HH section up north. I don't think I've gotten it yet.

I can barely contain my girlish squeals of delight! I hope he has some stuff we can buy off the catalog.

I need to get serious next weekend about setting aside some daylight to fish in the rivers and ponds for my museum. There's this thing I see a lot of when it's raining. It looks kinda like a frog or a bug in the water. I cannot tempt it with the fishing rod, and I cannot manage to get it in the net. How do you catch that thing?
06/24/13, 16:42
@VickiL

In the water or on top of the water? If it's on top, it's the Pond Skater and you have to catch it with your net. If it's in the water...I think it's a crawfish? Just keep fishing and you'll get it.

I am at work now, but i am curious to see the turnip prices for the day. Turnips are going to be real important for me to gain money from now on since I am teaching summer school and my time to grind fish and bugs is very limited.
06/24/13, 17:13
@Scrawnton

Wait until Thursday. They're typically priced higher midweek.

@VofEscaflowne

I went hunting for the Rainbow trout and the Char together, and found the trout pretty early on....followed quickly by three more. WTF? Where were they the rest of this week?

@VickiL

I think you might mean the Diving Beetle. It has a frog shadow whilst under the water, but surfaces periodically- If it's close enough to the edge, that's when you nab it with the net.
06/24/13, 18:15
@Shadowlink

Yeah, that's probably what she's asking about. I just saw one at my pond. It surfaced and I grabbed it. So I'm current on all of my museum donations aside from the Horned Hercules. Now I just need to catch a snail (I hope my Hibiscus blooms soon)...

@Shadowlink
Yeah, that's the bugger. I just can't manage to net him.

@ludist210
Having put over a million bells into it, I imagine Scrawnton will be on top of turnip prices like a three-year-old asking where his birthday cake is. Mine was a paltry 74 bells this morning. I'll give an update this afternoon ('cuz it changes at the 12's, I'm pretty sure).

So I was waiting for villagers to give me some more exciting projects to build, and then comes Hazel this morning recommending....a yield sign

Hazel really needs to just get out of my town ;p
06/24/13, 19:42
@kgtennispro

I need Hazel out of mine too. My girlfriend also has Hazel annoying her.

In other news, more duplicates from the fortune cookies today. I have a shiny new... Timer as the only thing in my basement.

I am about to build a fire pit next to my campsite but I am not 100% okay with the campsite location.. I guess I'm stuck with it though.

When does Club LOL open? I have all my signatures as of yesterday or the day before. I forget but I thought it would be a one day turn around.
06/24/13, 19:55
@DrFinkelstein

Can't you demolish town projects? Or is the campsite an exception?
06/24/13, 20:22
@VickiL I bought my turnips for 100 bells and today they were buying them for 106. Not good enough...

What are turnips going for in everyone elses town?
06/24/13, 20:49
@VofEscaflowne
Campsite is an exception. Along with the cafe and the police station. Anything else we can think of?
